I believe I've got enough info now, so Thank You everyone for your assistance! I really appreciate it. E4.gif
- - - - - -

I'm writing a paper for school on the cause and effects of DDR, and I'm interested in your input, if you have the time and opportunity to give it. E1.gif

1) How/ Why did you initially get into DDR?

2) What led to you playing regularly?

3) What are some of the pros/ cons you've discovered with regular DDRing?

Thank you in advance to any who answer! nerd.gif

Edit: Two more I thought of

4) Does your DDR habit affect relationships with peers/ family? If so, is it usually negative or positive? (no need for detail)

5) Do you find one element of the game more attractive than the others? (the music, visuals, the fact you get to stomp around, being on display, etc.)

I saw a home version of it being played at an anime convention and it looked fun so I gave it a try.

I found the arcade game at my local arcade.

pros: it's lots of fun and I lost weight and it's keeping me in shape.

cons: it's an expensive habit.

G'evening, Lady Voranderun E4.gif

1) My friends were into it, but I had never actually seen it until I began working somewhere that had it. One late night I popped in my quarters and still haven't left the dance stage riiight.gif

2) The desire to get better, to improve myself, and to get to the same level as some people I had heard of / seen play

3) Con: I'm broke E13.gif Pro: I've met some truly amazing and adventurous people. Honestly, this is the biggest positive there is, for me; the people I've met. I've also used DDR to help keep my legs in shape, after the doctors told me I couldn't play water polo or indoor soccer anymore. And really it's a self-confidence thing too. I really enjoy seeing another song getting passed with an "A", or more catas passed, or just pleasing the crowd. However, the biggest con, as I said is ... I'm broke E13.gif

1) I seriously don't know! laugh.gif I read about it on a message board I used to go to, and that got me to downloading the songs, and loving it. Then I eventually bought it.

2) I got it for a gift, didn't really get into it until about half a year ago.

3) Pros: Stamina rising, coordination, and weight loss. cons: I'm losing money, FAST! E4.gif

1) How/ Why did you initially get into DDR?
Hmm... Well, in quiz team two years ago, there was a question on it. Not knowing sparked my interest, and I wondered if there was a machine around here. At kings island they had some, but I was too scared to try. When our mall got one, however (a 4th mix, btw), I was hooked. That was a year ago.

2) What led to you playing regularly?
Just how fun it was, and the fact that "Hey! Exercise that isn't depressing!"

3) What are some of the pros/ cons you've discovered with regular DDRing?
Pros: Increased endurance, better leg stregnth, more self-confidence, increased musical ability (seriously!), and more friends.
Cons: HasMoney = false, hassles my parents for having to drive me to locations

EDIT: Other two questions

4) Does your DDR habit affect relationships with peers/ family? If so, is it usually negative or positive? (no need for detail)
With my peers: Makes me cooler
With my family: They're glad i'm getting exercise, but not that i'm spending so much money.

5) Do you find one element of the game more attractive than the others? (the music, visuals, the fact you get to stomp around, being on display, etc.)
I would probably say that the music is great, how unique it is, the fact I get exercise, that everyone watches me... actually, all of it is great!

Hope your project goes well!

Well it is weird. Me and my friend were hooked on dance freaks/maniax. Then one day, the arcade we went to sold the DF machine. One of my other friends told me that there was another music game that you had to dance on at another arcade down the street. So i went there and fell in love with ddr.

1) Actually, I believe it was Tamarik and VGS playing at bham (when we had 3rd). I found a PIU machine that was a bit less crowded, and learned on it. Then moved over to DDR.
2) Seeing the huge crowds at one video game. "I like video games, and I like attention." A perfect match
3) Pro: Nice cardio, and all of the awesome people.
Con: I smell bad
4) I got a new friend, because I introduced him to PIU. We've been friends ever since. I've gotten to meet lots of awesome people from out of town. Also, this site has helped me clear my head and discover more about myself. Huzzah thumb.gif Coincidentally, my family hates me and thinks I'm antisocial because I spend all day talking to Mouse or visiting DDRFreak.
5) Not really

3)Pros: Exercise, Lots of stamina, Friends, lots of fun.
Cons: Less money.

4)Not really.

5)I like Oni's.

1. Summer of 2001 going to Scandia in Ontario with a group of friends I went to check out DDR 4th Mix.

2. Wanting to improve my skills, excercise and a challenge.

3. Pros: Making new friends, excercise/working out my calves, and fun!
Cons: None, I only play when I got time and money. I spend $$ wisely when it comes to DDR. Other than that I play Stepmania! w00t!

4. It's more postive I think, I somehow got my best friend to play the game when I try in every way I can to get him into the game. I'm still tryna get others to play DDR. E1.gif

5. Yes, being able to showcase your skills and loving to dance!

I enjoyed reading people's answers here, and even though you're done with this thread, maybe we are not...

Quote:
1) How/ Why did you initially get into DDR?

2) What led to you playing regularly?

3) What are some of the pros/ cons you've discovered with regular DDRing?

4) Does your DDR habit affect relationships with peers/ family? If so, is it usually negative or positive? (no need for detail)

5) Do you find one element of the game more attractive than the others? (the music, visuals, the fact you get to stomp around, being on display, etc.)

1. Stumbled upon it one day and was fascinated watching people play

2. The game was fun - I SUCKED at it but others made it look so easy! I wanted it to be easy for me too.

3. Pros: excercise, improving yourself, meeting new people, showing off
Cons: expensive, time-consuming, often get sore from too much play, risk of injury

4. Yes, negatively. Dad refused to see me play, mom thinks I will have a heart attack doing it, and none of my peers like or respect the game.

5. The satisfaction of stepping along with the music as if you are the one creating the sounds with your feet

1) My friend dragged me to an arcade. Thought DDR was gay but DMX was uber. Switched to DDR when I realized everyone couldnt AAA everything on double 3x sudden marathon like they could in DMX.
2) It was fun
3) My leg muscles got much stronger and I consequently totally changed my Kenjutsu style.
4) Positive
5) The feeling of AAAing something.

1. Friends were talking about it; the first time I saw someone actually playing it, I was hooked.

2. Machine appearing locally at the arcade.

3. Pros: Incredibly fun; in this area of town, people are fairly courteous around the machine. Cons: $$$. (Or, CHFCHFCHF.)

4. Nope! I've actually gotten a couple more friends thanks to DDR.

5. The social aspects are always enjoyable, around here at least. Oh, and watching people play the game, first-timer or vet, is also fun, since everyone here simply wants to have fun...

1) Sensei saw something about it on TV and told us that it might help us out on footwork and stuff. Guy in the class told me dat he had the game at home and invited me over to play it. (story of both how i met my ex and how i started playing ddr)

2) It was fun. Great workout too.

3) Great workout. Tend to substitute it for Karate sometimes. Doesn't help my financial situation much.

4) not really. my parents don't really care and none of my friends have really seen me play. i like to play with my boyfriend though.

5) the fact dat i get exercise and how everyone thinks im amazing even if i fail an "easy" song
