I've been getting pretty smooth with turning but when it happens so fast in a song like Healing Vision Angelic Mix.. I just get discouraged and stop in the middle. I've seen lots of people on here with stamina problems.. Is there any advice on how to keep your cool and your legs from collapsing underneath you? I usually go up with my friend Lisa who can pass basically everything and its done wonders for me doing songs harder than my level, but it amazes me how she can do it all so fast. she uses her toes and heels and sort of shuffles to conserve energy i've noticed, but my feet arent big enough or skilled enough to shuffle like that, I normally play on the balls of my feet, especially with fast things going on. Any advice with stamina and keeping your breath control would be greatly appreciated. |

They're called crossovers
You did choose a good place to start to try and learn them, though. AM-3P is nice and slow... If you want to practice isolated crossovers (where you hit l,d,r... pause, and then go back r,d,l), Sync on heavy has a lot of these, without a lot of tricks thrown in to make this not work.
Learning to know when to crossover is important... if you can't see a way to go back after you do one, you probably shouldn't crossover.
As far as getting faster goes, just slowly go up in tempo on harder songs. Try AM3P, and then later try true (trance) for some practice in gallop crossovers (but still slow). Air is not too fast, if you can get past the confusion the freeses give (you can also turn them off). Eventually work your way up to pure speed (CSFIL:SM, Be Lovin), tricky speed (Exotic Ethnic), Gallops (R&P), and then... hell (PSM-oni ) _________________

They're called crossovers | Well, he's asking the term for doing stuff like LDRDLDRD without turning, which would be double-stepping. (Using the same foot twice, i.e. double stepping.) _________________

You can play on the balls of your feet for everything (and it helps PA, too), but it takes a lot of effort... so this kind of stepping can really help.
She's got the right idea. Just practice doing that a bit. If you can stay closer to the middle of the pad, and only move around the inside edges of the arrows, you have to step that much less, and it saves energy.
Actually, anything that minizes movement saves energy. If you move around a lot while playing, try to tone it down a bit. Also, if you're too tense, it will take more effort to move.
If all else fails, bar rape. It's not so bad _________________

Totally off topic, and I didn't feel like reading through 10+ pages of people talking about DDR.. But this has to be said.

I know someone on the first page said you should play until you're all beat out. But I'm on a limited supply of money. How much do y'all suggest spending? Here, the games are .50 apiece. |

I've been playing ddr for about a year and a half and I have trouble on candy doing the steps but I can do them I just don't know what the problem is. I've also been able to do maniac songs after trying hard on songs such as tsugaru maniac and matsuri japn maniac. What can I say I like the gallopsLOL |

at my local arcade (.75), i spend about 10 bucks every friday or saturday, which gets me about 2 hours of singles, a little less if no one else is playing. when it was 50cents (fiddy-cent) 10 bucks went a long long way.
i try to play till i can't breathe at least once a week.
if that's still too much, you'll need to save your money for some decent home pads and home versions of the game, or DWI.
and if that's still too much, paint arrows the ground, listen to the ddr music(in your head) and jump up and down in the corner until you can't feel your legs. (while turning the lights off and on really fast), you'll get the same effect even if you dont paint arrows on the floor! _________________

I'm new to the forums, but I'll add my two cents anyways. (n.b. most of what i say is based on ddr max, cuz thats all ive ever played. but you can probably translate my tips onto your game.)
My view on stamina is as follows: play songs until you literally cannot anymore, then get some water, rest for an hour, and keep going. I finally got a good pad for my home system and I've been playing 4-5 hours a day since. Also, if you really want to pass/ace/triple A a song, just keep doing it over and over. I wanted to ace max 300 on light, so i played it about 5 times in a row till i got it. also, training mode helps. I was able to C max 300 on standard after a good 20 minutes training on it.
As far as how to get better: If you are just starting, do the first light mode song, and just work your way through the songs one by one, till youve passed them. then, if most of them are D's or C's, go back and do them till youve got a B or an A on all of them. then do the same on standard, then heavy. If you are having a real tough time on one song, use training mode. then, if youve B/A'd all the heavy songs, move on to Oni. And always remember: there is no stopping point. you can ALWAYS improve, even if you've AAA'd every song on every difficulty.
Yup, i'm done. _________________

TetsuoDowntime wrote: | My view on stamina is as follows: play songs until you literally cannot anymore, then get some water, rest for an hour, and keep going. | I've found that my stamina works a lot differently than everyone else's. Playing songs until I literally cannot play anymore can be a good oni course or two, or it can be only one song or less (case in point, MAX300 [H] or harder songs). However, it never takes me more than five or ten minutes to get back up on my feet. I can stay at an arcade for over eight hours never taking a break for more than five or ten minutes. In exchange, though, I run out of stamina really quickly. I could almost pass Demon Road 2 by the time I passed PARANOiA Brothers, because I just didn't have the stamina for PB. I just now passed MAX 300 and only barely, despite being able to almost full-combo PARANOiA Survivor.
Does anyone else have this problem? Or am I just really bad at pushing my stamina limits (so I stop earlier, but get up sooner)? _________________

I cany help but say this, im soo confused when it comes to heavy songs that end up fast, with differant combos of 16th and 8th notes mixed in (Hvy Overblast), im slowly getting better but at my arcade its $1 to play a game so i run about $20 a day when i want to paly a long time but anyway i was wondering what i could do to get used to rading stuff like mixed in arrows with 16th and 8th note beats without my brain x-ploding! argh anywho, ciao |

I don't know if this has been said already, but, if you really want to improve, get someone who;s really good to be your instructor. (All hail the mighty Jonathan!) My instructor's great, I wouldn't be where I am right now if it wasnt for him.
...and he says I'm one of his best students! Go Jonathan! _________________

u can ask pros for tips, then say that you're on basic. You ask for tips, which would mostly depends on your synchronization, and moving your hips also. Somehow, when they say that to u, you'll think of yourself doing it on Trick, well, DO IT FOR REALS!!!!, somehow, I got the improvement of doing it on Trick for 2 days, then the next day it was straight to maniac, and maniac2. Got B's and C's on them, and now mostly I can get A's on 9 footers now |

Stamina has been a major promble for me. My stamina sucks. i.e... I have to do legend of Max as my very first song of the day to pass it. After that, I can't do heavy songs for 5 minutes (or so) . Then I try it later on... and fail. It is starting to piss me off. Any Advice? _________________
