One word.
Smile
DDR is fun. Smile. Laugh. Happy. Wooo... =D Who cares who is better?
Feeling superior to someone else is just another human emotion that everyone feels from time to time. How else can you explain becoming mentally irritated by someone? It can be both good and bad.
Lil B Girl: It's okay to feel better than people. Just as long as you can still smile and be happy. _________________

Everyone should just lighten up. If you read into Lil B post, she used the word cocky, but what I really think she meant to say was that she felt better than any of the players at the arcade. In a sense, cocky would be the right word, but there are different types of cockyness.
When you know that you are the best player at the arcade. That not really being cocky, just stating in your mind a simple fact. That would be really bad only if you treated everyone around you like they sucked. What I usually do is ask them how long they have been playing. If they say for a year or less. I ask them (not tell them) if I could give them some advice. Then it's up to them if they want to improve themselves by taking my advice. Trust me, after playing for 3 years I have seen other people get much better than me, and it's all because I devloped bad habits. If they have been playing for 2 to 3 years, I try to encourage them and tell them that I remember when I was there and again ask them if they would like to know what helped me to improve.
Let me put it this way, when I walk into an arcade, I do act like I own the machine. I do realize that I am probably not the best player that is there, at least I do reconize who are the best players that are there. I will not steal their thunder in their own arcade. I won't go and play the same song after them, even though I know I could do it better (ie higher combo, more perfects, better style, etc.) You do have to know when to be humble. The only exception, tourney time.
Sometimes, it's not all that bad to be a little cocky. If any of you have ever played in Hawaii, then you might have seen my friend Gavin and myself playing DDR like we own. It does draw a crowd and then we would try to get people to play. Maybe cocky isn't the word, confident would be more like it. When you have a lot of confidence, other people will see that, some might take it as cocky, but others will ask you to play with them because they are afraid of failing. Doesn't that boost you ego? I think that is what Lil B Girl was trying to get across. More about an ego boost rather than looking down on people. It does take confidence to pass songs. You do have to think in your mind that you will pass. |

Did we really have to use the word "cockiness" and the phrase "feeling big" in the same thread? _________________

I agree-- plus you can't win (or even improve any) if you keep thinking you suck.
As long as you know your own skill, then how confident you feel will always change depending on who else is around. Sometimes you'll be the best and greatest player in the room. Other times you're just a tribute.
btw goten, yes this thread has gotten both "big and cocky"... but I don't know what that means _________________

... it's funny when the n00bs at our arcade used to play DDR USA, they would shadow thier friend, then they would play and the friend would shadow, then after the song, who ever the shadower was would start to look around, trying to look cool, then put on little ad play Afronova and think they were the best.... but now they don't do that, they all think ex is ghey |

Yeah. Why is this thread still being talked on. Nobody cares anymore. Little girl thought she was good. Put in place. Done. And done.
Now, my thread about speed mods in tourneys. THAT was a thread. _________________

No doubt, but it's not like she's talking about feeling this way in a tournament dj 8-ball. My point was... DDR is about fun... if it turns into something not fun, then it's not accomplishing its purpose to that person's life.
Do you hate me or something? You've retorted to these points like I'm saying something wrong. Sorry if I offended you or something... *dies* _________________

Hmmmmmmm I agree with what you say Jinny boy. Apparently I have no idea where judges come in to play with this. He's obviously talking about free style where there was no freestyling mentioned from Lil B Girl.
But I dun think he was knit picking at you either specifically. Seems like that huh.
And that was the most disgusting word to put in a thread. I have a bitter loathing for cockiness.
Probably the only person in this thread to actually have rights to brag is JSBooGenie. Due to the fact that he wins tournaments monthly and he's actually not a bad person. Trust me on that one. _________________
