I've played video games my entire life. Literally. I beat Pong on hard when I was still in my mother's womb. The first time I saw a DDR machene, it was a 5th or 6th mix, I've forgotten. From reading threads on forums about it, I knew the general way of this game, so I wasn't exactly disturbed when all the instructions were in kanji, because most of the menus had pictographic instructions to go with it. I scrolled through the list of songs, I figured that BPM stood for Beats Per Minutes, so I chose something that I thought would be good for a beginner like myself. 142. I might take this time to say that I played Daikitana and liked it. Pain is good for me. Let me say this again, the first time I played I chose 142 BPM, without even knowing what to do. The game started up (I managed to chose one player without breaking a leg... for now) and it seemed easy enough. The arrows would scroll up, then I hit the pads at the right time. But when that music started pouring out of the neon blue and pink speakers, I lost all my logic and reverted to Hardcore Gamer Mode. (+3 to all rolls, -1 to sight) That means that I hammered down on the pads as soon as the arrows appeared on the screen, then stood there wondering why it didn't work. I finally figured out that I was supposed to hit the arrows at a certain time, but right after that, the game ended and I lost. The ironic thing is that the annoying speaker guy was in english, and he extolled my virtues as a DDRer. Ha. The song was "Dum Daridum" I think, and I still have it stuck in my head. That was months ago. It was in a mall, so I wandered away and went shopping. I picked up a couple of games and some manga (Lupin 3 is the man) when it came time that the local highschool was released. This is never, ever, ever a good thing. I know the way arcades work, you put the token up to save a spot, then when the guy either beats the game or loses it's your turn. A rather portly short girl in a printed American Eagle shirt that was too small and too low cut was going at, I checked this, 90 BPM. I went up, put up my token, and proceded to get my buttocks handed to me by a portly somewhat moist teenage girl. Well, she took this attitude with me that would have been fitting if she was going at 300 BPM blindfolded with a leg tied behind her back, but not at 90 BPM. So I grabbed my tokens, insisted that I was alright and she could contine her DDR game without my interruption, and just to prove my point, dropped $5 worth of tokens into the Gauntley: Dark Legacies machene. PAIN.
The next city i'm going to is New York for the Big Apple Anime Fest, so I assume i'll get to repeat this episode not only in hotel rooms across the convention, but at the local arcades, too. GOODY. _________________

BPM doesn't have that much to do with the difficulty of a song. |

Wow, I have no idea what the hell you just said
But it appears that you were beaten by a girl, refer to the picture for my thoughts, so what if a girl beat you, if someone has been doing something longer than you, they will probably be better than you |

Basically what happened is he played DDR, and picked a song at a moderate BPM. Then a "portly somewhat moist teenage girl"() plays a slow song and he tries playing with her, but he's not good at DDR yet so the girl beats him. Then she gets mad at him for some reason, and he runs away to go play an arcade RPG.
Just let this topic die . |

Yeah man, you're crazy. Don't underestimate the power of women, they control men any day (I should know from personal experience ). |

I had a DDR Nightmare once.. I was doing Legend Road singles and I had all Marvelous steps and on the last 4 steps of PSM Oni a little kid pushed me off of the pad because he was tired of waiting for his turn. And then I kicked his buttocks.. And then I played Legend Road on Doubles and had all Marvelous and then got a perfect on the last step of PSM.. _________________

I bet his confidence is hurting as well as his pride from losing to a girl, I guess your not use to losing at all. |
