StepMania Arcade Machine?

Ok so it seems like a good idea..but i have no clue how it can be done. My g/f is going to be recieving an Extreme machine soon, like next 2 weeks.. and it seems like it would be awsome to have stepmania also on the machine for created songs and so on...i dunno how machines work so i don't know if it is possible at all. I thought maybe it would be like a dual boot type thing...where its a choice before it all loads, either to play ddr extreme or stepmania, i dunno.. does anyone know if it is possible? and if so could you please help us out?

It's possible, basically rewiring the arcade pads to internally placed CPU keyboard in the cabinet. That should do it.

Though I am sure people will post more complexities.

Anything (basically) is possible in a situation like that. Honestly, I SERIOUSLY don't reccomend doing that, simply because you could end up costing yourself quite a LOT of money if something goes wrong.

Although it seems perfectly possible, you would most likely need to find a special video card compatible to the monitor in the cabinet. Next, you would have to worry about connecting the pads to two difference sources at the same time (hardwired), which shouldn't be that bad. The main problem, IMO, woujld problably be the heat buildup from all of the extra parts you'll have in just to get it to work. All in all, it's a serious risk, and you should consult some type of machine repair service (that knows what they're talking about), or get a friend who knows a TON about hardware and electronics.

I think one of the links off of the SM site goes to a site where a guy details about how he was going about transforming an arcade machine into a SM machine. Why do you think there are coin op modes now? Put coin in, hits button, triggers credit, much fun results.

I do know that it's possible, since these technicians at this arcade local to me are putting SM into a solo bass machine. But they really know what they're doing. It's pretty risky whenever you work with things other than the original hardware, and this isn't exactly cheap equipment, so I hope you find some really good information. Good luck.
