|
|
I'm new to DDR and am loving every minute. I aim to get back to the level of fitness I had years ago, but in those years stuck behind the desk I got heavier. I just want to know if there's anyone who's been in the same boat as me, and has used this to get fit and lose weight.
Also, what sort of grades and level of game do some of you bigger players get? (there must be some of you, surely ).
No pre-teenish flaming either please, I'm just curious. |

i used to be a pretty big, and a while back i lost a ton of weight playing ddr. then again, this was twice a week for 3 or 4 hours at a time. in the past few months, ive been playing as little as one or two games a week. however, recently an arcade near me has an EX machine with memory card slots and super sensetive pads, so im motivated to play again. im a little under 190 lbs, and you can see my sig for scores. the only two songs that i used the bar on were paranoia survivor and legend of max. everything else is under my own weight. anyway, if you want to lose weight, learn to play difficult/fast songs, and be able to play many of them in a row. it really builds up a sweat and takes off lbs. as long as you still eat right and all that jazz _________________

I'm almost 200lbs and 5'7" and I can AA most 7 footers and some 8's. The only 10's I have passed though are Sakura (not really a 10), bag (on 1x), and MAX300 (using the bar ).
I hope that helps you. Also I have a high of 96 million on Pop4 Normal and have yet to break 90 million on Pop4 Difficult. On pop4 normal double I have 93 million.
Like I said, hope this info helps! _________________

i have also, but i didn't worry too much about losing weight, it just happened...........i always took my DDR playing as a fun experience instead of a workout, but my competitiveness helped me become better at my game, to AA as many songs as i could, to beat my competition.........and that drive helped lose weight.............. _________________

Well, this can SORTA pretain to me. Back in the day when I was 11 and started, I was about.. 5'2" and 150 lbs. DDR helped me lose a LOT of weight. Now I'm 14 and 5'10" and 150 lbs. Yay for exercise! Good bye fat cells! Hello bone and muscle cells! _________________

(Slogan) I lost 30 pounds on the DDR weight lose plan and you can to! (End Slogan)
I used to be very out of shape when I started playing. I remember the days when Afronova primevil standard would kill my stamina to the point where I would have to lay down and catch my breath, afterwards. Now, I'm at the point where I can do all the stamina buster catas without really getting that winded. Don't worry about stamina. It's always something that will improve as you play.
And if you're using DDR to lose weight then you might also want to try dieting. You can play DDR all you want but you won't lose that much if you're stuffing your face with a triple bacon cheese burger from wendys for breakfast lunch and dinner. _________________

Another chance to share my stats? Okay! I'm 5 foot 10 and weigh 227 lbs at the moment, which isn't too bad I guess. I am also 29 years old!
My best feats thus far have been Maxx Unlimited on doubles standard (consistently getting a B), and other 8 and 9 footers on doubles heavy (A's to D's). Getting better all the time.
I still eat like a hippo, so the weight hasn't been going down much. It was as high as 236 or something at one time... |

During the last DDR freak UK meet up I think we must have lost a few gallons of sweat between us. _________________

Well, I was somewhere upwards of 210 when I started. I then went on the adkins diet, and played more. I now weight about 180 (pounds), and get B's and A's on the catas I can do, and I can B or greater anything else (that i've tried). _________________

I used to be the local behemoth at 6'5 and 270 pounds...but now I am only slightly huge at 218 pounds.
I can beat every song with about a "B" average, the exception being ten-footers. I can play for many hours without getting winded, so there! _________________

I have a friend that's about 6' 250lbs, and he's gotten a smattering of AAAs on single and double, the only songs he can't beat (On single and double) are MaxxU, LoM, PS, and PSM. He AA's most anything he plays on single or double, no problems at all doing this. He even has no problems with really hard doubles stuff like Ryhthm and Police, Moonlight Shadow, A, and more. He's had 10 greats on Leading Cyber single (Compare to my 59 greats, 1 good, and I weigh 110lbs less), 9 greats on Furuhata's Theme single, 13 on V I think, 1 on Rock Beat double. Watching him FC Stomp to My Beat maniac double with 90% PA is amazing (I can pass it, with 40% or so PA, it is damn hard to read and to step). Not to mention his double edits are mostly beyond what I can handle, and he FCs them with 85%+ PA without a problem. I can probably count the number of times I have seen him get a B on a song (Single or double, not including failing - he dosen't have the stamina some have and on a few occasions has simple walked off the pad since he has played too many hard songs) on one hand.
There's another player in the area about the same size, and he has AAAed Afronova (Yes, the original), and AAs anything short of PSM on single, but I don't know how well he plays doubles.
I have seen people that weigh 250-280 complain "I'm too heavy to play". They frankly need to shut the hell up. Sure, those guys might weigh 110lbs or so more than me, and I can even move faster than one of them, but their timing is impeccable to mine simply being normal, and their coordination is much better than mine too. |

I'm another weight-loss-in-process person...6', was 250 3 months ago, now down to 230, hoping to get to 185 eventually. I have changed my diet as well, though. Only the occasional soda, and no more late night snacks.
I can pass most 7's and 8's with at least a B, have only passed one 9, and still trying to get past R&P...getting closer everyday! |

I'm a much leaner 230 on a six foot frame than I was when I first started playing. I usually warm up with survivor Max oni, Lomax, and some other ten footer or So Deep. _________________
