I was playing around with different songs sped up in DWI. Then I tried Crash!.
WOAH. If you ignore the lyrics and speed it up, it sounds really cool. Similar to Across the Nightmare. Is Crash! a good song slowed down and with added sucky "lyrics"? (They don't even rhyme, and the guy can barely even carry a pitch! WTF?)
If I could somehow make those "lyrics" go away, I would make the coolest Crash! remix ever. Alas. _________________

Yeah, I think Crash! would be up there around Across the Nightmare in popularity, if it had no lyrics.
Sounds like an instrumental to one of Blink 182's better songs. _________________

First of all, just get a Winamp plugin to cut out the center channel, and change the output to disk-write. Voila, karaoke Crash.
And, in case you didn't notice, there's another Crash thread right below this one
EDIT: I did exactly that, and I have a vocal-less Crash WAV on my desktop right now. I cleaned it up with a few Sound Forge filters, and it is pretty good. Contact me over IM if you're serious about doing a re-mix. _________________

...Why didn't you post what plugin you used, anatole?
I'm intrigued. _________________

Alright, here's what I did, step by step:
This is a speed/reverb/karaoke plugin for Winamp 2. I set the plugin to voice removal, which, in effect, cuts out all voice on the center channel, since it isn't reverbed.
Then, I set the output plugin on WinAmp to output the whole file as a PCM Waveform. Then I had the WAV sitting on my desktop.
Now, when I open and listen to it in SoundForge, there's still a distinct echo of the voice. If you've ever seen a show where the instruments are cranked way too high compared to the mic, then you know the sound.
So I scrubbed it through three filters. I set the EQ to cut hiss by reducing all frequencies above 8KHz by 6dB (this cut out most of the echo), and boosted the bass to give it more oomph, since the raw removal was a bit guitar-heavy. Then, I used the Enhance filter to maximize the wave's contrast and help the music drown out what was left of the vocals. Finally, I put it through a Time Stretch to 70%.
I must say, the end effect is pretty nice. If someone would be willing to put up some hosting for it, I'll compress it into mp3 form. _________________

anatole, that is basically the remix I would have done of Crash! in its entirety, right there. Well, after speeding it up, I would have repeated some parts to get it back up to full length, but that's about it.
The only problem I can see with your methods is that your new version of Crash! should be at exactly... 285.714285 repeating BPM... I would have aimed for some rounder number. However, you have the tools and skills you needed to filter it out and clean it up, which I lack. All the remixes I've done so far have either been from BMSes with keysounds or... have just been pretty lame.
I'd love to hear it. I'd host it if I had webspace I knew how to use. I have some sort of webspace with my school, but I don't know how to upload, terms of use, etc. _________________

I think that this is the worst DDR song, ever. I'm not saying that the song sucks, but it just doesn't belong on DDR. I could continue this with how some songs from other Bemani games don't belong in here, too, but I'm feeling lazy, right now. _________________

The song without vocals would be standable at least, whenever I hear the song now I have to plug my ears so that I don't go insane. _________________

It's not perfect, but here it is: http://tjay.freeshell.org/crashclean.mp3
If anyone with more experience in Sound Forge or similar programs has any advice on how to cut out what's left of the echoes on the lighter parts, IM me.
Props to tjTIVO for the hosting. _________________

Ugh, hang on a minute ya'll. I accidentally used LAME instead of Radium for the mp3 encoding, and it made the final version sound like crap. A better-encoded version is being uploaded....
EDIT: Done, same link. _________________

If anyone else comes up with a better version (or at least what you think is better), let me know and I can arrange hosting.
Good job anatole!
Edit: For some of you, only the first 36 seconds might work, or the whole thing might play. You need to send me a new copy when you get the chance, anatole, something got messed up. |

Hmmmmm Crash! has sucky lyrics....indeed. Just for that reason that song deserves to die. It's nominated on my Worst songs ever on DDR list. Mr.Brian and the Final Band did it. Hopefully its their Final song. _________________

Whatever you did to Crash is god awful. I actually kinda like the song, but that mp3 was painful to listen to. |

Yeah... something definitely went wrong during encoding or something. There's this warble... and there's a disturbing echo of the lyrics. It sounds cool in a weird way... but... uh... _________________

Come to think of it, playing Crash with speed mods does remind me of Across The Nightmare. I still like Crash even though y'all continue to bash it. And the song sucks, I can barely hear the lyrics. The Heck! Bad kbp it's at 108. |

I like crash. It's not the worst song in the game at all. There are much much much worse songs. |

Sorry about the crappy quality guys, I was working off a 96kbps Crash! which was the only one I could find on KaZaa, so a higher bitrate on my end wouldn't help much, since the source is so low.
I don't know if it's kosher to ask for it on the boards, even if it's solely for research value, but if someone could maybe hook me up with a 192+ kbps Crash! file, I could put THAT throught the SoundForge filters and it would sound a LOT cleaner. _________________
