Dude, I've NEVER played 5th Mix, but when I go up north, I'm supposed to have the chance to... and lemme tell ya I'm excited about playing it! There's also an Extreme up (which I've been playing a bit of lately), but I really don't care about that. I MISS the characters. I started on a 3rd Mix KV2. And SSR was the BIG thing to do. But don't dis the 5th Mix... if it weren't for that one coming out, we wouldn't have Max, max2, or Extreme. Think about it:
John Smith and Jane Smith have Don Smith.
Don marries Sue and have Julia.
Julia must remember that if it weren't for John and Jane Smith. she wouldn't be in the world today.
Would you disrespect your grandparents like that? I don't think so.
BTW... ALL CAPS MEANS YOUR YELLING AND ITS REALLY NOT NICE SO YOU REALLY SHOULDNT DO IT BECAUSE YOU GET MORE FLAMERS THAT WAY, AND THEN THREADS CAN GET LOCKED QUICKER BECAUSE THE THREAD TURNS INTO NOTHING BUT FLAMES, AND MODS DON'T LIKE NOTHING BUT FLAMES, SO YOU MIGHT WANNA CUT DOWN ON THE CAPS!!!!!!
Ok, now that my piece has been said, bai bi! _________________

[Unnecessary caps edited out. I got my point across, that caps are annoying. No need for leaving that eyesore here anymore.]
Anyways, I think 5th is great. The long versions rock.
I'd still prefer Extreme, but 5th is still good. _________________

What I like about 5th mix:
Wide variety of songs
All songs that were new to 4th mix plus. Except for Saint's Go Marching, but that's what Extreme is for.
Nice Interface, which remains with ddr today, but with an upgraded look.
What I don't like about 5th mix:
The announcer has nothing new to say.
For some reason, getting Perfects is harder than all the other ddr games.
No banners, which is why some songs later get 2 different ones, between
U.S. Max and Extreme. And maybe Extra Mix too.
Most of the new songs are boring to listen to in my opinion compared to the other ddr games. Especially the licensed songs.
Most of the new songs backgrounds are just plain and have nothing to do with the song's name in some way. No actual theme to every songs animated backgrounds. |

I played a 5th on a quick trip to Silver Spring around DC once. I see no reason to hate! I mean, it's got Sana and We Drink Ritalin (not to mention other extended mixes) and a buncha other neat songs on it. Not to mention (yes, again) the final appearance the characters constantly dancing in the background.
However, based on song selection alone, I think I'd go for Extreme, which lacks only ONE song off of my favs list: Strictly Business. Which 5th doesn't have, either. _________________

5th mix is pretty good, actually. In fact, it's important in that it's the 1st installment of DDR to run at 60 FPS, not counting the Dreamcast installments. |

You should be. That mix had a lot going for it, like all those one-time-only songs mentioned earlier, the characters (if you're nostalgic), and you still get the silky-smooth frame rate and song selection screen interface as the newer mixes. Se sure to look for the long-version songs: they appear in the list only while browsing for your 2nd last song (the long versions count as 2 songs). You knew that.
Tell ya, when I first saw 5th mix, I was impressed! After that, 7th mix blew me away again. But Extreme has not. Sure it's got lots of good stuff and modes to play (don't get me wrong, it's a great mix) but there wasn't the initial "Whoa" factor like 5th and 7th gave. |

I dislike 5th mix. The only things I enjoyed about it were Hot Limit, Radical Faith, and Romansu no Kami Sama.
Maybe I just hate it because we had it for so long.
I'd still rather play 3rd than 5th though. |

mmm, I look at the two kind of the same way. it would just depend on what songs I felt like playing. _________________

5th mix has no PA value, at least not to me. Where's the challenge? I don't want to get to a certain skill level and just stay there, so what's the point if it's not challenging? Just to listen to old songs, and I can get my fix of that on the home versions or stepmania. Many of those songs have really boring step charts too, make you feel like you're running in place a lot. I prefer 3rd over 5th mostly because of that.
Sure there are songs on 5th mix I like, but I'd never spend money to play them. |
What do you mean by "5th mix has no PA value"? If you mean trying to PA the songs on it, well its supposed to be the hardest mix to PA on. I wouldn't mind going to play on a 5th mix just to see how well I can do on the songs now that I haven't played them in awhile. See how low I can get my great count on those older songs. _________________

We drink Ritalin?
The reason many people like 5th Mix over other mixes (with the exception of Extreme and 4th+), is because it has a wide variety of songs that you will not find on the other machines.
Firstly, there are the long versions. Apparently Konami didn't like the idea of shortening them, so there is no other way to play B4U Glorious Style or Hot Limit. Admittedly the others are wretched, but I do like those two. As well, it's the novelty.
There are many songs on 5th Mix you will not find on other mixes, that just have novelty value. Swing It, Radical Faith (especially this one), the original Paranoia Eternal steps (Wheee! Upupupupupupupupup!).
Pretty much, people like 5th Mix for the same reason people like a 4th+. It has a respectable amount of songs, and many songs you won't find elsewhere on later mixes.
If anything, 5th Mix is probably the most under represented -- yet loved -- Mix on Extreme. _________________
