Here's something I could never, ever comprehend. Everyone has certain songs they love to play, just because the "steps are fun", and also songs they refuse to play because "they steps are horrible". I know I certainly have huge lists in both categories.

If you think about it.. how different can each song be? Theres four arrows - There's gotta be a limit... right? To me it seems like Konami has done an extrodinary job mixing up all the steps over so many songs.

It's just weird to me how someone could like song A because of it step patterns, and not song B... for example, I can't get enough of the steps for DXY!, but the steps for Stoic make me cringe... both are pretty much the exact same thign fi you think about it... simple runs in the beginning... followed by step-step-step-jump patterns at the end.

So exactly what makes someone think in their mind "hey, these steps are really fun!" ?

Edit: I really need to take a typing class.

Simple: When you enjoy dancing to the song and think the patterns match the song very well, then it's fun to dance to.

There are no songs I won't play because of bad step patterns... I think all are unique in their own way but some of my favorite steps are from Senorita Standard Doubles and Still In My Heart (Momo Mix) Singles because the different ways in which you can move to them make it different and more exciting every time, which can eventually lead to a freestyle! biggrin.gif

I think that everyone has a different taste for what kind of steps people like for the song. I mean take insertion for example... it almost sound just like Extacy but the only difference is maybe the BPM (i'm not sure) E15.gif and some slight difference in the song.... but their steps are like one with the song and like what Endangered Species said &quotethe different ways in can move to them make it different and more exciting every time, which can eventually lead to a freestyle!&quote that's W3rd 4 ya! biggrin.gif E13.gif

Twisting makes songs fun. Shuffling makes them not-fun. For instance, songs like Exotic Ethnic and Higher (next morning) are fun due to the twists. Songs like Daikenkai and HVAM are not fun because you're forced to shuffle.

I'd say fun steps are ones that go to the music, make you twist your body around doing fun things... the "non" fun steps are usually most of the catas... or to a lot of people it's the steps that have nothing to do with the beat of the song at all. Then again, look at Orion .78... it has really off steps like that but some people consider it to be one of the more fun songs to play out there. *shrug* it's all relative. i'd say a good percentage of wether you think the steps to a song are fun or not are based on wether you like the song or not in the first place.

I think "going with the music" is pretty important because when a song follows the music well, it can feel almost as if you're playing the song in a sense.

Also, I think challenge is an important factor, as well. A song usually can't be way out of reach and still be fun, but it may be when you finally get to that level. For me, one example is that I used to get annoyed with any song that had eighth notes mixed with doubles, especially if the eighth note arrow wasn't one of the double arrows. Since then, I have learned to do these well, and not I really enjoy it when songs have some of that pattern thrown in because it makes it interesting.

To me DXY!'s steps are more smooth compared to Stoic's even though they both contain similar step patterns.. I don't know how to explain. =/

I love songs with lots of Air.. jumping around is too fun. Sweet Sweet <3 Magic and Dance Dance Revolution on Standard.. ohhh yeah.

There are many things that can make a song fun. So many that I don't know how to describe them.

xenon [H] and Burning Heat! [H] are fun, but Colors [O] is not.
Leading Cyber [H] and Gradiusic Cyber [H] are fun, but Drop Out [H] is not.
PARANOiA Survivor [H] and Sakura [H] are fun, but MAX 300 [H] is not.
bag [H] and Secret Rendez-vous [H] are fun, but Orion .78 [H] is not.
Saints Go Marching [H] and Rhythm and Police [H] are fun, exotic ethnic [H] is not.

I don't know what makes some fun and others not. They just are.

As said before, it goes with the music. As well, there's something unique about the steps as well that other songs don't quite have.

Like I find Heaven is a 57' Metallic Gray to be a fun song, because it's not just very different from others, but despite the interesting steps, they match perfectly with the song.

I like "go" songs, one that are just constant streams of steps, like CSFIL speed and Be Lovin'.

Turning like R&P and EE is also fun.

Max 300 is a great musical track, but the step file makes you move in an ackward way at certain times. Not that I am saying that Max 300 as a whole is a bad song to pick. But it's just that the step file for Max 300 could really use a good tweaking.
