DDR in 20 years

I want to know what everybody thinks DDR will be like in 20 years. I think it will probably lose it's popularity within the next few years (It's already lost lots of it's populatiry in Japan), but It's a series that I could really see going long term - just at a slower rate. I think in 20 years (maybe sooner) it could be possible that DDR makes a comeback...maybe being called "Dance Dance Rejuvination" or something. The whole concept of DDR I think is simply incredible and I don't think it will ever completely lose it's appeal. I think in 20 years or so, people might look back at DDR games from today and think like "hey yea that was pretty cool, but the song list is a little bit old". I think all they'd have to do to bring it back would be to keep updating the song lists.

DDR won't be around in 20...I'm sure some other type of dancing simulator will replace it

I agree that DDR will not last forever, other bemani games could gain more popularity though, I do not think bemani games will just die out period.

There will always be new people wanting to play them.

By that time, I will own a couple DDR machines like DDR EX and another machine. But yeah by the time that happens it will be replaced by something better.

You'll always have a hardcore/classic base for DDR/bemani games (mostly, at that point, by kids who grew up watching their parents DDR), but in twenty years it'll be stuck in the same kind of niche that other games of yesteryear are right now. (What happened to all the neat four-player Konami games like TMNT and Sunset Riders? Case in point.)

However, the trend started by Konami--physical action at the arcade--is a trend that's here to stay, methinks. After Police 911, MoCap Boxing, the whole slew of Bemani games, and so on, I can see this kind of thing being applied to other games as well, mostly for the same reasons as Penny Arcade made note of last year (http://www.penny-arcade.com/news.php3?date=2002-07-24)--it'll give arcades that something extra that people can't quite duplicate at home.

It would be nice to see DDR not die out, but it's almost inevitable. Hopefully similar games replace it so the concept of dancing stays.
