Just broke my brand new pad....

WTF.....my pads finally came. So I'm dancing and getting a little pissed because of ghosting and such, but still having a good time...but then I slip (non slip....yeah friggin right), step on the plastic piece that the controller cord goes into, bust my back on the corner of my couch, and rip the socket out of my PS2, tearing out 3 of the little wires in it, and leaving me really frick pissed.

Now I have one pad left, and I DO NOT HAVE THE TOOLS AND SUCH to modify it. What should I do. Let me tell you the RedOctane pads are waaaaay overpriced, but is an Ignition style eBay pad worth getting?

modding a pad doesn't take that much, a piece of plywood and duct tape would suffice.

And I also agree that redoctane pads are overpriced, one of mine stopped working out of nowhere, stretched wires most likely.

Most of the ignition style pads on EBay are from Cyphergames (www.cyphergames.com). If you mod those properly as well, they should last at least half a year.

I gotta ignition pad from e-bay and it is workin great. It slips around a little at first, but you sorta learn to step on arrows at such an angle that would make it slip. My dog came in once while I was dancin and stepped on a pad a bunch (long claws too). Did nothin to it. All in all, I think ignition pads are a decent buy.

I've been using a set of Cyphergames Ignition 1.0s since November of 2002 and they're still working pretty well. These suckers are pretty heavily modded, but not even the chairmat mod can fully compensate for the way-to-soft white foam inserts on the Ignition 1.0s. I'm starting to notice just a little bit of ghosting, but they're still pretty darn accurate and reliable. I think they'll last until the end of summer, but after that I'm anticipating having to order some CG Ignition 2.0s to replace them.

All in all, you can't go wrong with Ignitions. Get 2.0s if you can, though.

I've lost faith in ebay for DDR pads because there are no return policies and it tends to be a crapshoot.

things to consider:

1. Did you order the pads DIRECTLY from RedOctane?
2. Did you follow the instructions on the manual?
3. Did you mod it correctly?
4. Did you put it on an appropriate texture?

if you said no to any one of these, there is your answer

First off, if you have the money to order directly from Redoctane, then get an Afterburner, Cobaltflux or a Blueshark instead. I have had a great time playing on my innex.com (ebay seller) softpads. They have raised arrows and hard foam and have lasted just as long as I have been playing. Only $25 each shipped. Don't waste your money on softpad - get the cheapest you can get if you are going that route. The problem with them is the design - not their quality. It is not possible to manufacture a quality softpad - the design is the limiting factor.

if its BRAND NEW, u should see if you can get a replacement (wont hurt to try)
