I know DWI comes with a random course. modifying the settings to the course (like feet limits) will probably get what you are looking for. If you don't have that file, I will post mine. _________________

1) I put a the DDrExtreme Theme, but when I put it, it the appearnce and the whole game is part Max and Part Extreme.. Wtf??
|
The SMEX theme isn't yet ready for StepMania CVS snapshots. SMMAX2 only, at the moment.

2)When I play Stepmania CVS, it pauses WAY!!!!too long..
Like it takes 5 seconds to scroll when I'm selecting a song

Upgrade your snapshot.
Quote: | It still has A LOT more problems than the normal one so you're better off sticking to the normal one. |
CVS snapshots have different problems than 3.0. Pretty much all of the problems in 3.0 have been long fixed, and we're steadily nailing down the remaining issues. If you're having problems, be sure to report them or we may not even know about them.
Quote: | Is there any way to convert SM files to DWI files? |
The StepMania editor writes both SMs and DWIs. You'll want a current version, though; 3.0 had some ugly bugs with DWI writing.
(And if your computer is too old to run SM in the first place, sorry, can't help you. :) |

Well about the banners and backgrounds, if they are anything but png images, they tend not to show up. I know because my originals are only png files and they always show up. The name entry thing I don't know anything about.

I had the same problem, and narrowed it down a bit. I assumed the problem was because I am using a quick linux hack someone did (http://ddr.suxos.org/linux/), but perhaps this is not the case.
For the technical details: in my case stepmania didn't load any 256 colour .pngs. It only displays pngs which don't use a palette but have seperate RGB channels for the colours. I'm sure this is just a tiny bug in the palette handling somewhere, perhaps even in SDL and not in stepmania itself. I didn't really look into it any further, I was lazy and just converted all the .pngs to RGB. |

Windows 2003? Didn't know that existed. All I know of is 2000, NT and XP (and ones before that). Do you mean XP? |
Windows 2k3 is mainly for servers. Corporate office and stuff. Microsoft is coming up with another OS Windows Longhorn. Most of the new computers that are already build probably going to be running Longhorn.

Yes, I found out yesterday about it. Don't know why you'd try to run a simulator on it though. _________________

I'd argue with that: Microsoft says the earliest ship date for longhorn is Q3 2005 and given their reputation for getting software out on time (Windows 95, Windows 98 were ~1 year late, It took forever to get from WinNT4 - WinNT5 etc).
A realistic shipping date for Longhorn is probably summer 2006. Two and a half years away? Given the tech demos microsoft has shown and their goals for TC??? (whatever they call paladium now) it's my opinion that computer today will run the next consumer Windows about as well as a computer from 99/2000 handles WinXP (think P2/3-450 w/64mb ram); You'll get it installed but it's not going to useful for much more than Office.
The think about their goals for their "quartz extreme" clone (name escape my memory) and you'll see that you'll probably need a fairly new machine to use it's cool-new-features(tm)
But alas I'm off topic.
On topic: I have run SM on Longhorn (dual p4-1.5ghz + 512mb + ati 7x000 video) and it's terrible. I couldn't say how it handles on Win2k3 - nobody has bothered to off at school (nor is it on MSDN apparently). _________________

You have to have a kind of .zip program such as:
WinRar, WinAce, or WinZip
When you download a package or .smzip file it should open and show the Install Package display box, if not try downloading it again and see if that works. _________________

Ok I obviously didn't see this thread until I after I made the other one, but you know best so I'll ask here. I have all the requirements for Stepmania and everything runs normally. But during the song at some parts the keys lock up and don't register until I am very close to failing, and then they come back on. They do this 2-3 times per song. What's the deal? _________________

Re-install Stepmania or DWI and see if that helps, make sure you move the songs folder so that they do not get deleted. If that doesn't help I will try to help you some other way. _________________

It would be nice if this thread could be split up for the different programs, to avoid confusion.

SMPackage doesn't require a separate archiver.

StepMania's uninstaller should never delete any songs. If it's doing so, let me know--that's about as grave as a bug can get!

StepMania supports PNG, JPG, BMP, and GIF.
