dai, using the Kanji in the song title, means big.

kenkai, assuming I have the remember the kanji correctly, means prefectural assembly.

Somehow, I suspect that my direct translation is VERY wrong. What's the title of this song actually mean? And if the direct translation is somehow right, could anyone provide context explaining what this means?

Thanks

Seeing the English translation for Daikenkai.. I don't doubt for one second that the title of it is something weird.

Yes it means Big Opinion and the song makes very little sense translated as well as in it's original japanese meanings...

Just an observation... nerd.gif

I'm not fluent in Japanese, but I can hold my own, and I don't think that the lyrics on animelyrics are totally correct. Some of the transliteration to romaji is incorrect, and the translation seems off. Does anyone know a source to the lyrics that are written in the original Japanese? I think the song will still be mostly non-sensical, but it might be a bit more coherent.

Apart from some small spelling errors, those lyrics on animelyrics are more or less correct (as much as can be said for that song, anyways).

Even native speakers don't know what they hell the lyrics are supposed to mean; it's just random rap. Of course, many have also memorized the lyrics, but I relate that to the generation of people that memorized the lyrics to "Ice Ice Baby". laugh.gif

My friend's mother is Japanese. Daikenkai means Big Opinion. Period. I don't know the exact translative lyrics, but I do know it's basicly random words strung together. That is all.

No, words don't need to mean anything in a song.

Nope. Just words. I know it says something like "Nonsense growing from a rotating head" at some point, and later some math starts. I dunno. my friend's mother had difficulty making out the words

You can check out the original Japanese script lyrics for Daikenkai here: http://homepage2.nifty.com/k-poseidon/page114.html :) I tried viewing them through rikai.com, a site that gives you hiragana readings of kanji when you put the mouse over them, and the results are ridiculous. It wants to say the title is "Oomitakekai" XD.

ha ha ha, exactly-- i've never seen anyone in japan care enough to even write those lyrics down... but here's an american site with the lyrics in roman letters and also a rough english translation. the lyrics to Daikenkai

and that guy's right, that song is a like tongue twister in japanese-- it's meant to sound fun and trip people up at karaoke, but they aren't really saying anything. happy.gif
