After playing for three years, using the controller helps playing. In my first two months of playing, I was passing songs like Paranoia Rebirth, Dynamite Rave, and End of the Century heavy. The controller helps with timing and reconizing step patterns. As far as stamina, you just actually have to play or do aerobics. The controller is no replacement for actually playing, but it helps. You begin to memorize the step patterns, and then you will start to play the songs on mirror stealth. lol... On a serious note, it even helped me on my double play. Passing 9 foot songs on single and double. So, it does have it's benefits, but it doesn't replace actually play time on the game. |

DDR isn't DDR with the controller. That is why there is no controller port at the arcade. |

because they dont have a ps1 or ps2, but they do have the USB adapter for the pads for there PC. |

The controller won't hurt you at home unless you stop playing normally.
My home pad broke and I haven't got around to buying a new one, so I play with the controler at home, however, I still play the real way about 10 times every weekend at my local arcade.
The thing to watch out for is to make sure you don't let the controller go to your head. It's very easy to pass just about anything with the controller. For example; I can FC PARANOiA SURViVOR-Maniac no problem on the controller. I can't nearly do this on a pad.
However, playing with the controler helps you learn the beat, remember where hard sections of song are, and help with your timing.
Basicly this: Using a controller often isn't bad unless you let it be

You hit the nail right on the head. Like I posted earilier, I used the controller as a tool to improve my DDR skills. |

Tell u the truth, the pad is better but the controller does help. I had bad PA skills when I bought DDR MAX. I had no pad yer so I was forced to play with the controller. To my astonishment, I was able to AA numerous songs with low greats. It even helps in the arcades to improve your PA. _________________

It depends, I use SM to help me with songs I know I can't pass at the arcade. But if you play regularly SM/DDR you shouldn't lose any skills whatsoever. If you play SM for a long time and not DDR for awhile your gonna lose your skills..... |

Playing Stepmania or any other sim. helps me get the beats of the songs and helps me practice them when I can not get to my local arcade.
Playing on a homepad or at the arcade on your feet is of course going to help you out more. This is due to the fact that you play on your feet and not your fingers. _________________

I started out as a controller person, because I saw the first DDR (for ps1) in the mall, so I was like "Hey, the game I saw in the arcade at King's Dominion! I want it!" Turns out I only had enough moneh for the game, lol. I played with the controller for quite a while, and since I'm so lazy, I play on it more than with the dance pad o.o. I still my my lil' arcade thing goin on though So I guess I'm more used to the controller than the pad, but I think it does help! It's also alot esier to make edits at home with it. _________________

Just so long as you don't get yourself out of shape, it will be fine. I've had times where I've not played DDR at all for around 6 months and still did just as fine. |

I think everyone gets the point. The controller should be used as a tool. Much like the bar at the arcade . lol. |

Well, the thing is if you use a controller a lot you could get rusty after a while. _________________

Not necessarily. If you stay in shape, playing on hand will allow you to keep the feel of the game. They took the machine out of my arcade, so I've ended up playing on controller more often than not. I have gotten better on controller, and the next time I played at the arcade I was much better (I went from barely passind 9-footer to getting A's and B's).
Playing at all is good. _________________

I play with the controller alot.. actually if it wasn't for the controller my PA scores wouldn't be so high, such as Groove 2001, I AAAed it heavy at home and in the arcade I got 1 gr8 on it. _________________
