So you're a DDR fan. You download plenty of DDR music ... play DDR all the time ... your music taste has pretty much wrapped itself around DDR music these days. Maybe not just DDR, but Bemani music in general. From all the different Bemani genres.
One day you find a CD of a group you used to listen to regularly, and decide to pop it in. The same, good old songs that you used to listen to and enjoy a lot.
But something is off ... something is odd. You can't seem to just relax and listen to the music. It seems longer ... more tedious. The music takes forever to get from beginning to end.
-----------
And this is pretty much what I noticed from a lot of my DDR-playing friends. They get so used to those simple 1:30 to 1:50 length songs ... and next thing you know, it becomes "odd" to hear songs that last longer than 3:00. Has anyone else noticed this? With themselves or others music tastes? _________________

I think DDR is a good introduction to the general dance music genre. I found a new radio station featuring dance music, and found it soothing to my ears: it has more variety than DDR but has the same sense of continuous rhythms that it wouldn't get too slow, like regular pop music. _________________

No, I haven't noticed it whatsoever...but you pretty much describe me when it comes to DDR music. I have 300+ songs and that's just DDR from 1st-8th. It's what I mostly listen to these days and some non DDR music. |

I must say I do notice that. althoug Im not pissed to hear such a long song, I just hate it that the fact that the DDr songs is short. Ive been listening to classic a lot lately after hearing songs like V and EOTC, and those can last up to 12 minutes, Vivaldi's pieces. Some Bemani music was meant to be short but some need to be longer. _________________

My CD book in my car... hehe... The first 6 slots are all DDR Soundtracks (2-7), and then 2 slots for DMX 2'nd Mix... I plan on getting more... I dunno why, but I just really like bemani music...
And then, when I'm not listening to those, I've got my CD's of songs that have been covered by DDR songs...

Sometimes. I played DDR for about an hour then when I listen to some Michael Jackson music, it seemed to be going on...And on...And on...But that song was 7 minutes long, another story there. |

So true. I went into a coma last month after listening to a song that exceeded 3:15.
A good tihng to do with your DDR soundtracks is to drive around with your volume on max, blaring out Bag from Extreme's Nonstop. It annoys the hell out of those latinos who play their akward spanish/accordian music so loud it makes your ears bleed. _________________

The main way I listen to DDR music anymore is through Dancemania cd's (go out and buy Speed Best 2001 from amazon.co.jp NOW) and through my latest obsession: random trance/dance mixes that happen to include DDR songs. So I hear the full versions mixed into one big nonstop track.
So no, I'm fine with long songs. I actually prefer them, if they're long because they have something new, not just because they're repetitive. |

I listen to DDR music...I like it very much...I'm glad that the DDR songs are short. Because like the long Versions from DDR 5th Mix, I wouldnt be too thrilled hearing the same thing being looped over and over again dude. _________________

i actually dont like the short songs. all they really consist of is one or two verses, and two or 3 chorus'. i like normal songs that have something that changes it up later in the song with different verses and interludes and whatnot. 1:30 is too short for a song, i like mine between 3-5 minutes. oh and another thing that made me dislike short songs is when i got Meteora. its only 12 songs, and they range from like 2:30 to 3:30 in length; waaayy too short. just as im waiting for another verse to start, the song is over, and the entire album is like 35 minutes long :-/
though for bemani cds its kinda nice cuz i can rip all the songs i want and fit 40 or so to a cd. _________________

I'm definitely not a fan of DDR music, but I do know what you're talking about. I play in a thrash band (our longest song is about 1:10) and listen to thrash/grindcore a LOT, so I was very used to short songs beforehand. After listening to albums where you can go through 20+ songs in less than 20 minutes (And a few albums with multiple tracks under 10 seconds...Merzbow/Gore Beyond Necropsy split, anyone?), everything else seems soo long! I try to even it out sometimes by listening to ambient and/or chill-out (Pete Namlook, Tetsu Inoue, Boards of Canada, etc.), where a song can last for anywhere from 10 to 45 minutes, but most of those are practically engineered to put you to sleep, so I usually don't make it through more than one song before I'm gone. |

I have never had this problem at all. I have always thought that DDR is extremely lacking in good music which is why I prefer "real music". |

I personally like being able to hear lots of different genres and songs in a short amount of time, but I love length and depth in songs too. I love awkward and strange genres in Bemani, so I listen to it a lot. I always get my hands on long versions of Bemani songs, since I get the length I like with the genres I like. Also, I have a small attention span, so I like different stuff, quick.

The 90-second song seems perfect for DDR. Just long enough to get you excited, but not too long to where you just want it to end.
Normal-length (and longer) songs are still enjoyable. As long as the music isn't obviously looping segments of itself, I have no complaints.
Artists generally do a good job making their songs just the right length. I've heard "normal" songs of 90 seconds to over 10 minutes, and each one was carefully constucted to hold my interest throughout.
Only half the "extended" DDR songs do that for me: Hot Limit and B4U. |

I agree, it *can* grow on you, but I haven't gotten to the point where I pop in a DDR music CD to listen to while I'm out on the road or whatever.
For now... I stick with death metal/hardcore |
