Two-handed for me. I've got a friend who only plays one-handed, and I think it really holds him back sometimes. AGOP plays two-handed, so I see no crime in being like Agop E1.gif. The only song I play one-handed is Route 80's, because (for me) some of it is really awkward to try to do two-handed. I also went through 5th style L7 survival mode almost entirely one handed, and found that it helped my 2-handed playing a lot, so I should probably try to practice it more often.

It's because IIDX is too cool for whiney 12 year olds who flame people on DDRFreak when they try to discuss using the bar. riiight.gif

Also, I feel there's nothing wrong with two-handed, but I personally push myself to one-hand songs after I clear them, just as an extra challenge. I'll clear a song two-handed, then progressively finger fewer and fewer keys with my left hand til I can right hand it. At least that's what I do when I'm in a slump and can't clear any new songs. riiight.gif

Oh, and pinky scratching is ultra-gay.

The Strong Jaeger [L7] != The Strong Jaeger [7]

Seriously, I can only finish it on 7 Keys with 50%, and there are way too many double notes for me to handle.

I totally agree, i'm glad to see that there are more 2 handed players than i am, while i am just a n00b at IIDX i'm steadily progressing even more, and i'm glad that at this thread i'm not being called a "light7 lamer" or something like that, i still have a lot to go through in this game.

Well I'm pretty sure that the majority of people who play IIDX use 2 hands. Of all my friends around here who play IIDX, only 1(maybe 2) plays one handed. Everybody else uses 2 hands, including me...

Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever seen someone playing one-handed in the arcade.

I'm still looking forward to the day that I could say something like this. Here on the East Coast, IIDX is non-existent in the arcade scene, and it's popularity only reigns on home import consoles. Due to it's lack of arcade prestige, a lot of owners and some players just aren't interested in picking up the game, because they still see DDR as the biggest thing since RPGs or Fighting games.

I keep thinking more and more about making my own IIDX controller mod, but finding those friggin buttons is pretty hard. I don't want to use the Happcontrols.com ones either.

Ummm, ok, I just cleared G2 14keys, but I can't clear it on 7keys at all. Also, there are a ton of 5* songs and 6* songs that beat the groove gauge out of me easily, and G2 is rated a 7* song. I really wish the ratings system was more accurate.

EDIT: Ok, I just looked through 6th Style, and there are only a few 5* 14keys songs, so I guess I meant a lot of other 7* and 6* songs are owning me, but G2 is 7* and it's not hard at all.

Starmine beens rated as a 7 for a long time now. I think the only version it was a 6 in was in 4th style. On 5th and higher styles, its been a 7.

Just apssed The Big Voyager [A]. I haven't passed it on 7 Keys, though.

On a side note, I found a Japanese site that rates the IIDX songs up to 8th style on 7key (an the another!) from a scale from 1-49 stars. check it out:

Um... this site seems to rate B4U just as high as Get On Beat ~Wild Style~ (6th Style sped up ver.)... Solid Gold the same as Holic... V has the same rating as Spica...

Um...

Yeah... I can pass a 42 on here (V), and I think I passed a 44 (I can't remember if I passed Buffalo [A]...) but I get totally destroyed by a 31 (empathy)... there's something funny going on.

cool site, but i agree with Rancid Fish, some of those ratings seem ridiculous.

This discussion has gone on since the dawn of Bemani: "Why is this this song harder than that song when it's rated easier?" ... meanwhile someone else says the exact opposite. Not every player is going to have the same problems passing the same songs. The techniques needed to beat each song are varied, especially when it comes to IIDX, considering the many playstyles possible. There's no way that a simple arbitrary number will be able to describe the difficulty of a song accurately because it's going to be different for each individual. If it's within 1 star (plus or minus) of your own thoughts as far as how tough it is, that's probably a pretty accurate ranking.

Of course, you could always have a 'groove gauge' style rating for ranking IIDX songs (which I personally prefer in DDR). It would be more accurate, and show 'why' each song is difficult (people can then find out which categories of the groove gauge that they excel in, over the course of playing many songs), but players complain that this style of rating is too difficult to understand. So then you're back to numbers of stars. You can't please everyone.

As an aside, on 5th Style NSC the only song I can't beat on L7 is Regulus. Anyone else remember what was the last 5th Style song they had to beat on L7?

That's the last one I beat on L7, at least on 5th Style.

Why? It looks dumb, but it's the only way I get scratching done. But on certain parts of songs, I completely switch off to one hand now (Rottel da Sun, B4U, V, Ect)
