Actually, that's not such a bad idea.....have a sort of "freestyle" mode where certain arrows will trigget events within the song....sort of like the power-ups in Amplitude.
Rewind, slow-down, speed-up, trigger background beats. Almost, well, like I said...Amplitude or Frequency on a dancepad in such a way that it kind of feels as though you're remixing the song. Or perhaps branching arrow sequences...PIU already has this on a mode in Premiere2 and hitting certain "arrows" will change the style of the steps mid-song.
In the end, though, I think the best thing they can do IS add hand-sensors....one to the left and right of the pad, maybe one in front...but all Para-style (sensors from hang-over to the floor, the DMX sensors would just get in the way). That way it WOULD be more like real dancing and you could strike poses like in Samba. |

Yeah, it seems like Konami just likes people assuming that it's the last one, because it causes more hype for the players. I *hope* it's just a marketing ploy. If there is another mix, I think they'll probobly wait a while to release it.... that way they can build up more hype...
It's *kinda* like the new Mountain Dew: Live Wire. It's only avaliable in Summer 2003. Says so on the bottle and commercials. They're doing that to shoot up the demand (and from what I've seen it's working. I mean that stuff is gooooood and it's selling well it seems). However, I think they'll come back later and say "Back by popular demand: Mountain Dew: Live Wire!". I think Konami has similar reasoning. They did it with MAX2. They were like "We were gonna stop it, but you liked it so we made this!"... then it was "We were gonna stop, but you liked MAX2 so much, we're gonna give you one more!".... maybe the same thing will happen again...
I personally think the next mix (if there is one) just needs to be called "Dance Dance Revolution 9th Mix", or "Dance Dance Revolution Extreme 2nd Mix", cause I'm getting tired of the name changes.
"Dance Dance Revolution Extreme IIDX" would be a cool name, too. :-P (They could make the dancing stage a subwoofer.)

My opinion is that Konami will come up with a way to use all that sensor technology they've been working on with their other games...
I mean, look at this(probably incomplete) list of games they've done with position sensors:
DMX
PPP
Mo-Cap Boxing
Mo-Cap Golf
Police 911 1 & 2
Perfect Pool
They can either make a new DDR for the arcades, or use the money they've spent researching their sensors for gaming use to make a new, improved, mind-blowing dancing series.
Both would make me happy.
But the second one is doubly exciting since we could speculate more about it than with a new DDR.
Personally, I'd envision it as either a new form of the DDR theme(color/shape the arrows to identify them as high/medium/low, or just high/low like DMX, then have either position sensors to read everything or positioning for the top and panels at the bottom like EZ2) or a change in the look of the gameplay to more easily view a wider area, perhaps something like showing the actual playing area from the top down and having the notes "pulse" in.
Top-down viewing would probably ease readability tremendously...for the easier songs...I don't know what would happen if it got fast and complex. I guess probably the same as with DDR, we would learn to read it heh. |

Well seeing the decline in Japan they may not produce another mix. But if they were to produce another mix they should add in things like crossed arrows (like in dance maniax), or Dance Magic (Disney Mix).
If your not fimilar with Dance Magic here's how it goes
You pick your character (yeah return of characters) that have a set of magic cards
Magic cards have certain properties like sud, hid, extra steps, speed mod (from x.5 to x5)
You have a combo meter. When you combo meter gets full it sends a magic card over to the other player.
Then you have a shared dance meter and whoever has control of the dance meter when the song is done wins the song.
It would be nice to see more arcade mixes, but it's very unlikely. |

Hm... I think it would be cool if they released a regular old 9th Mix (Like someone said) with a bunch of new songs, Oni, Nonstop, and the re-introduction of Battle Mode... and bring back character selection maybe.. but the characters wouldn't be dancing every 2 seconds in the background. Maybe... like, the certain character you picked would effect the different movie baxkgrounds you get... To sum this idea up: You choose a character and instead of them dancing in the background, there are different backgrounds with the character in it, for example, Rage driving a Car or something.
And then...
NEW: Dance Dance Revolution Harmony!
They put in almost every song from DDR (including Disney Rave, and Dancing stage Dreams Come True and Oha sta! or whatever) and make it a really happy mix with like, 3 new catas but no other new songs (which is why they would have to pile the songs on in 9th Mix).
But then again that's just my idea. _________________

Well changing the controller configuration would really suck for us who have put out a lot of money for good pads so for Konami to totally change the setup may be detrimental to the home market. I say, make a SUPER MIX with licensed songs galore on it. Instead of charging $2000 for the upgrade kit charge only a few hundred dollars for it. Make a smaller profit and make it more available to people in the arcades.
Damn, if I were in charge I may open a few specialized Bemani arcades in malls and stick a Super DDR right at the door for all to see. Pay a few real good players to show off. Maybe even hold DDR instructional classes for money and offer home products right out of the store.
Give players a ranking and make it more a way of getting fat little kids in shape. Market it like Little League or a karate class. No guarantee that it would catch on but with the dying arcade market an aggressive marketing strategy may revive DDR.
In closing, Konami is a business, instead of trying to save a dying game they look at the bottom line. Why make less profits? Just use the R&D dept to find a new game you can make a few bucks off of. It really sucks for the average person. |

They need to implement a battle system that doesn't blow. As much fun as it is playing side by side, it's more fun kicking your friend's buttocks. _________________

DO NOT start the songlist from scratch all over again like they did in 6th Mix.
Only reason to play 6th Mix now is to play MAX 300 and Candy* on Extra Stage and One More Extra Stage, respectively. |

"Don't step" arrows are stupid. Welcome to DDR 1st mix. That's right... Arrange mode. Awful, awful mode. Thank god they got rid of it. Adding a shuffled arrow arrangement would be tricky to get used to, but what would be the point? As is, having LEFT AND RIGHT ON THE LEFT AND RIGHT makes sense. While still having the stationary arrows in a line, they're as close to being intuitive as possible, which is a good thing. Honestly, would stepping on the left arrow and hitting the right side of the screen make any sense?
Increasing song length is stupid, now go back to whining about how all the IIDX songs in DDR Extreme are bad cuts. (You're only whining because you just want more song for your money. Go play IIDX).
I don't know about you people, but I think Bemani won't last more than a year or so longer.
Look at how much Bemani has been made: (Taken directly from DDRFreak's other bemani list)
Beatmania/HipHopMania/Beat Stage - Dead
Beatmania IIDX - Pending... 9th style arcade is coming out, but no 7th style CS in sight (Maybe). People claim IIDX is losing popularity also.
Beatmania III - Dead.
Dance ManiaX/Dance Freaks - Dead.
DrumMania/Percussion Freaks - No home mix since 4th/3rd? 9th mix ARC is out though.
Guitar Freaks - See above.
Keyboard Mania/Keyboard Heaven - Dead.
Mambo A Go Go - Dead.
Para Para Paradise - Dead.
Pop 'n Music - The most popular Bemani, I guess.
Dance Dance Revolution - Most likely no more arcade releases, maybe one last home release.
It certainly had a good run, but I think for the most part Bemani games have lost a lot of their popularity.
Back to making Gradius games and Metal Gear Solid, I suppose.
I'm still waiting for Rush'N Attack 2... _________________

Would any one like to see one more USA machine? Providing that they would include many of the features that are already in place in the import DDRs and added some of the features that everyone suggested here? I would really like to know. |

Did you really think the users that posted here two and a half years ago are still checking for replies? I'm gonna take a wild guess and say: No. |
