I read up a bit, and I see thats it just has codes to load games with. Can you add codes to the PSX disc? _________________

I'm looking at getting a used PS2, and then buying a mod chip for it. From what I have seen in this thread there are different mod chips for different versions of PS2.
The model of PS2 i see used the most is the SCPH-30001. And from what I can tell I can get a Magic 3.1 chip for it. I just want to make sure this is correct before I go out and buy both.
I want the mod so that I can play import games, not burns or copies. I don't really care about those. I'm just looking to be able to play ligitimate versions of DDRMax and DDRMax2 JP versions. |

I just got an install from PSX-tech, and the guy checks every PS2/Xbox before it goes out (checks for all types of media too: CD, DVD, backups, etc). Apparently mine did get a little shaken up during shipping, and it wouldn't play DVDs, but I e-mailed him and he gave me his phone number then told me how to fix it.
Awesome experience and I highly recommend that if you're sending your PS2 off, send it to PSX-tech. |

Magic 3.1 works with the network adapter, whether you're playing backups or originals online.
I believe PSX-Tech would refund your money, but you may want to e-mail them.
I have heard a few people say that the pre-modded systems work fine. |

For some reason I got a bit nostalgic when I thought of playing the Tony Hawk games... Problem is, all I have is a Japanese PS2.
I've been wondering for a long while what I could do to play Tony Hawk 3 or 4 on my import PS2... but Japan never releases those games. However, I just started searching for mods, and I saw the Swap Magic V2... It says it's capable of playing original import PS2 games, DVD and CD based. And, good lord, there is a model for JAPANESE SYSTEMS AVAILABLE at http://www.firefly-hk.com/customer/product.php?productid=35&cat=&page=&XCARTSESSID=d765b5a73162714f6dbaa4256c0688f0 that url! My question is this: If I would buy this, could I use the flip-top for my Japanese PS2 as well?
Also, does anyone know how compatible this is with most original PS2 games?
And does anyone have experience using the Japanese version of this swap disc with American games? If this method will work to play original US games on my Japanese PS2, I will be so extatic, I will run up and down the walls. I've wanted to play games like Tony Hawk, SSX, and sports games for the longest time... but never had the american PS2 to do so. So, any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. _________________

Cool, thanks larrakin. I ordered both things last night... I doubt the Japanese swap disc will come for a few weeks... the only place that had the Japanese version was in Hong Kong. At least, that I saw. And the flip cover ended up costing 35 dollars total X_x, priority mail shipping included. It looked like a good quality one though... =D I can't wait to be able to play Tony Hawk 3 & 4 and GTA3 again. =D Some great American-only games! =D _________________

Alright, I'm back from a long time ago....since MAX JP was released. Now since MAX2 JP came out, I would like to know if there is a way to patch the game the same way as MAX JP so it works on a PS2 w/ the USB mod. Yes, that's right, I have the POS USB mod. I also have a Jap PS1 btw. If anyone has any info or can point me to some about making a back up of MAX2, please do so. |

Hmmm... now I'm curious to see which games are DVD-9 and which aren't. Does DVD-9 mean dual layered? ***has no clue... except when I order HK anime DVDs, DVD-9 usually means 9-10 episodes a disc.*** heheh... If someone else has already made a list of all DVD-9 games, I'd like to check it out. Though, I'm mostly only interested in about 5 american games... THPS3 and 4, SSX Tricky(though I may buy the import of this title... I think they just re-released it in Japan), GTA3... and I guess that's it. =/ Hehe... I'm still curious to see which games are DVD-9 though. _________________

Yes DVD-9 Means dual layered. The only game I can think of off hand that is is Xenosaga. Game from your region arent effected but you wont be able to play DVD-9 games that are backups or from other regions until they release a new DVD-9 compatible boot disc _________________
