I've been playing on the Japanese DDRMax and I found that the grading is a bit different. I got 46,093,211 points but I still have an 'B'. It was on heavy, the song was Over the Rainbow . TO make this really strange, it showed as all the steps on 'perfect' when it was on the grading scale.

You probably screwed up really bad at the beginning where it is all slow... and then you did really awesome towards the end of the song. For some reason, in DDRMAX and DDRMAX2 for Japanese PS2(not sure if it is like this for all DDR releases), perfects at the end of the song are worth much more than perfects at the beginning of the song. So, if you got like 10 misses, and tons of goods at the slow part at the beginning, and got perfects on the rest of the song... it's very possible to still end with like 47,000,000 points.

The overall grade is not determined by your score at all(like many other bemani games). It is derived from the amount of perfects/greats/goods/boos/misses you had in the song. So, if you had a ton of misses, it's very possible to still get a B. Though... I have never had that scenario. You must have REALLY sucked at the beginning, or something.

Yes, it goes by the Percentage of Perfects, greats, goods etc.. It may be like the arcades in which you have to get a certain % of perfects WITH the full combo OR you can miss a few but have to get a higer % of perfects for a AA. All in all, you most likely did not get all perfects or it would have given you a AAA.

Yeah, that and it would have been an even 50,000,000 + bonus(if you didn't play the song twice in a row; a strict 50,000,000 if you did play the song twice in a row).

As stated, you get progressively higher points for each step. You probaly got more greats twoard the end of the song, wheras your bro got his more twoard the beginning. The fact that you got more greats at the end of the song would give you a slightly lower score.

Frankly, I think that this is brilliant of Konami. I mean, at the end of a song, you tend to get tired and start to mess up more often, meaning that those points are harder to get, and thus should be worth more.

To the original poster, did you get that score w/ or w/o the bonus. A score like that with bonus would not be uncommon.

Yes it is that same way on the Japanese ddrmax. On the US ddrmax all you need for the AA is a fc. blink.gif

Well just because you had the same combo doesn't mean you were getting the same grades for steps. He was probably getting more perfects than you. Or maybe you had more misses, boos, or goods too in the other half of the song.

For example, say 2 ppl FC max300 heavy, so they both have 573 max combo. But say one guy gets 50 greats and the other guy gets 100 greats. It's almost assured that the guy with 50 greats is going to have the higher score, even though they both had the same combo.

Unless of course, the person with 50 greats got all of their greats at the very end and the person with 100 greats got them all at the beginning. E13.gif

Percentage of anything has nothing to do with it. For the last time: (yeah, right)

Perfect: +2 points
Great: +1 point
Good: 0 points
Boo: -4 points
Miss: -8 points

OK: 6 points
NG: 0 points

Add up your score and compare it to the total possible number of points: (number of steps * 2) + (number of freezes * 6). Then your grade is determined by the percentage of total points you got.

failed: E
passed, but below 45%: D
at least 45% but below 65%: C
at least 65% but below 80%: B
at least 80% but below 93%: A
at least 93% but below 100%: AA
100%: AAA

Exception: in PS2 DDRMAX USA, a full combo *OR* 93% will give a rank of AA.

source: Aaroninjapan.com, or any number of DDR sites. Live it, learn it, love it.
