as far as i know, im the only one who made a blue beefman dance pad. There arent instructions, i basically studied the pictures in blue beefmans signature, asked him questions about it and,,, built it!

bluemeanietrader, i didnt drill the circuit board, just soldered the stranded wire directly on it

well, im gunna go work on my pad,,, bye

I think the easiest design to understand would be ddrhomepad's design. That's the one I'm doing because i think he had really awesome directions. Also, the other designs just seemed more complex with the same results. Just an opinion.

the "beefman" disign pad is for the most part riptides design. With slight modifications to how the wireing is done. Beefman uses 4 corner brackets instead of all the screws. Which now riptide has redesigned his to use mending brackets instead of the screws.

From what I can tell of pictures of beefmans, the only other difference is his 2X4's are vertical instead of horozontal like riptides, but I can not confirm this, this is just a guess from brief pictures I have seen.

Okay, assuming that I'm an idiot and i have no experience cutting stuff and soldering stuff...what is the realistic probability of me being able to build any of theese designs? Which one is the easiest? Is there anything that i can do that will make doing this any easier? Is there any kind of electronics shop that will do the soldering for me?

i have (or rather had) no experience soldering, i would recommend (this is what i did) talk to some people who know how to solder and look online and then practice on a messed up controller also make sure to get rosic core flux ( 60% lead 40% tin i believe is the best) otherwise having the solder stick is a doggy

i think RipTide's pad design is the best. it just seems that DDRHompad's design isn't as detailed at RipTides (with website intructions and pictures), and the videos he has with them help a ton in figuring out what to do. and ive never seen Beefman's...so i really dont know what to say there...heh...

but i guess all and all, its just a DDR pad, and they all have thier pro's and con's.

oh with blue beefmans pad is it okay to use weatherstripping or is the silicon tubing crucial to its design? i just want the use those weird looking corner things so my screws dont go into my wood anymore.

Woo...Finally finished...Everything works perfectly...
Got a generic performace psx pad, worked great...

Thanks to all who have helped...

I don't have that screw problem...here's what i did
For my contacts i used the straight mending brackets (riptides new design)
2 on each side,(2 inches each) then for my contacts i soldered a small wire from corner to corner...thus if any 2 hit it makes a complete circuit,
really helps it you hit the corner on a step, before it wasn't registering for me..

The height of the brackets are adjustable by putting washers under em (again riptides new design..)

I'm having a problem with my pad. I've gone through about 5 of those gamestop controllers, and each one of them has the same problem. The down arrow stops working. I take the pad apart and test and test, and the down arrow is just fried. What could be the problem?

Each time the controller's fried, it's plugged into the left port of my PS2. I have to get another controller, but the next time I do, I'm going to plug it into the right slot.

Anyone else having a similar problem?

i would have to say its probably a soldering problem on your end or gamestop controllers just suck tongue.gif. i recommend using the original PS controller it works like a dream

Blue beefman and me are going to make a tutorial website on how to make his dance pad. Hw will be gone for a week or so, so when he returns were gunna start working on the website.

by the way, with my blue beefman style dance pad, i got a 616 combo on konamix in nonstop mode. And a 268 combo on japan heavy.

I get the occasional twitchy arrow but i got some sollutions im gunna work with.

OK, here's what I'm having problems with;

1: I can feel how close the up arrow is to the contact. I can simply tap on the arrow with my finger and it will register. How do I fix this problem? More weather stripping?

2: THE RIGHT ARROW WON'T WORK FOR CRAP! Taken apart it won't work. Put together it won't work. What's the deal here?

3: final question. When I put the entire pad together, certain arrows wan't to act like their being stepped on when they're not. Am I screwing down too much through the brackets or something?

These are based on DDR's pad design. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm about to smash the whole project with a nice, big axe out of aggravation. frust.gif

Thanks,
Marcus

1: More weatherstripping might help. You could also try loosening the screws around the panel.

2: Check to make sure all the wires are connected and that your soldering points are good enough. Use a circuit tester to look for anything suspicious. If all else fails, it's possible that your controller is fried. This happened to me (three times) when I was using a cheap controller. I now use a Mad Catz $13 controller, and it hasn't failed yet.

3. It's possible. See 1.

Don't scrap your project! You just need to take a break. I felt like ruining mine plenty of times, but I took a break, worked on it later, and now it is just about superior to most store-bought pads. You'll be glad you saved it when you start to AA most of the songs.

Ok well i think its time to revamp the pad and make it work a bit better, going with this braces/whatever it is riptide used idea.... how do you wire it? is one whole rail/corner brace ground, the next brace/whateverrailthing the live? so you have 2 connections per side? or how is this working? also... i got a controller issue

my pad as it is, works ok... id like to pimp it out a bit... but as of now its nto too shaby... i can get a 200 combo on dead end.. then all of a sudden fail. The pad seems to short out (lack of a better word) for 10 seconds and stop responding... Sometimes its 10 seconds... other times 2 minutes... either way it always comes back... but i can find no connection what-so-ever to the shorting out and anything im doing at the time... anyone seen anything similar? suggestions? im thinkin its time to buy a new controller :/ (im usin an original sony btw - but it looked pretty ghetto when i bought it, i think i got a bad one frown.gif )

thanks for any help ya got

okay... i got 2 questions:

1.) what are the exact bar measurements? ( or where can i find them )

2.) if i have lights, do i need a different kind of paper to print the arrows on so it shows up better? (transparency, frosted plastic, etc)

( i know these have prolly already been answered, but i'm short on time. sorry... )

I have a problem. I replaced the buttons on my pad, and printed out the button art. It seems to be to small to fit the button. Any suggestions on how to make it bigger? Thanks!
