All right, all right, all right, there's something that's been eating at me for some time (BTW, thanks for reminding me, Xiayu). Why is DDR the game that's invariably brought up when taking about making adjustments?
I assume what you mean is that IIDX is vastly more top-heavy than DDR (which isn't actually true until 6th Style, BTW). The problem is, the same is true for every other Bemani game.
PnM - Gentle progression, if anything a little bottom-heavy.
BM 5-key - Nice, even distribution, maybe middle-heavy.
PPP - From really easy to...not so easy. The real challenge is doing the actual routines.
MaGG - Not much different from PnM.
Gitadora - Some really painful stuff, but not an overwhelming majority. Multiple levels with a good range in each.
KM - Getting used to the keyboard is the toughest part. I've yet to see even one song that's comparable to a IIDX 7 notewise.
Furthermore, the later games do not become more and more top-heavy. PnM added the EX level, but 9-key and 5-key remain as they always were.
My point is that someone's who's put in a lot of time on ANY other Bemani game will have to do some adjusting. This is a particularly thorny subject for me; someone on iidxstyle.net once actually screamed at me to "go back to DDR!!". (Which I found ridiculous since I never left DDR to begin with, but never mind...) I noticed a serious bias here, which I find really dumb, and certainly inappropriate for a website devoted to this game.
Just wanna see if someone could, you know, put my mind at ease just a bit.
Oh, and if you find a song really hard...keep at it and someday, maybe you'll clear it. Use Training and Drill Mode if you have to. That's all I can say; that's probably the only good advice you'll hear. Good luck, and have fun.
P.S.: I was one of the people who sent in a letter asking for 7th Style to get a PS2 port, so yes, I do still actually like this game. |

During the final drumroll in the song, the last 12 notes are 1/16 triplets. They go from right to left on the black keys 4 times. Just press as fast as you can since they're so fast if you try to be perfect you'll lose some serious Groove Gauge.
And how the hell are you able to pass The Strong Jaeger [L7] before Colors?! That's one motherfucker of a Light 7 as well as G2.

i beat The Strong Jaeger [L7] very easily to be honest with you, that song never gave me any problems ... G2 [L7] on the other hand, was a combo of pure luck and tons of training mode raping
thanks for the tip on the end of Colors, thats the part i have trouble with, my guage goes from 80%ish - 10%ish during the end.... |

Is it just me, or is Pop'n music's learning curve worse than IIDX? Seems to me like there's a huge jump in difficulty from say level 24 (simple) to level 27-29 (consecutive 4 button presses).
*Waits for pop'n fanatics' heads to explode, freak out, and call me a closed minded challenge freak.
Edit: Strong Jaeger never gave you problems?? Sounds like you need to switch from light 7 to flashing 7! Seriously, I can pass a good amount of (non-flashing) 7s but I always finish Strong Jaeger [L7] with 2-4% groove meter. _________________

Then the 7-key note pattern should have been made into the Another (it currently has no another), and then they should have given it a REAL "Light" note pattern, rather than just "7-key without a couple of scratches." _________________

Hi, I'm new to this thread, and I've got a question or two, but I guess I'll introduce myself first...
I'm Bo, I'm from Nashville, where we just got an 8th style a few weeks ago at Dance Beat Arcade. I've progressed pretty quickly at 7 key, having beaten all the 5's, 6's, about half the 7s, and four flashing 7s.
Anyway, here's my question:
We can't seem to get the DVD video in the background working. I'm pretty sure I have the DVD player hooked up correctly, but I could be wrong. If anyone could give me some advice or direct me to a FAQ that would be great... |

Well, the dvd player runs on a SERIAL IN which means the internal computer inside the IIDX cab tells the dvd player which chapter/track to go to. Dont worry though. If your arcade plans to upgrade to 9th style when it releases june 13th it comes with a new dvd player..until then, sit like the rest of the IIDX machines in the US and have no videos. _________________

We saw that, and I'm pretty sure it's connected correctly, but I can't seem to get the DVD player to respond to the commands from the CPU. I checked in the test menu to make sure the model number matched, and now I'm thinking about taking the DVD player out and hooking it up to another TV to see if it works...being Japanese it should be NTSC, right? |

Holy shit. I just A'ed V [L7] with an 892 expert score.
Now, many of you wouldn't care since you can get A's on 6-stars not counting Sync [L7], VJ Army [L7], etc., but some here can pass 7-stars but not V [L7]. I mean, I've been playing for 5 months already. |

Is your 8th style new or used? If it's used the DVD player is probably just busted like the majority of them are. _________________

Finally killed every Light 7 on 6th Style, even The Safari, The Strong Jaeger, G2, and Take It Easy. Well, I used Mirror on B4U. Who cares. |

Nice! I've got all of em except the Strong Jaeger. How'd you do it, slow it down in training mode and work your way up to speed? _________________

Sometimes you just have to break out two hands...that's how I got through it on light7, and that's how I get through it now on 7keys. Maybe not the entire song, but certain parts I just can't get without bringing in another hand to hit the 1 and 2 keys. _________________

I think you have to get into the 190k range to AAA something. I've gotten 180s and not AAAed on songs before.
About 5th Style, I believe there are 52-56 songs in it, and to unlock all the courses, just clear or get pretty damn far into each course until the original number turns red at the course selection menu. Courses 17 and 18 will be soon unlocked if you keep playing too, and Survival mode becomes unlocked sometime too. I don't remember what the hell I did to unlock everything aside from play the hell out of 5th, and clear all songs in light7. _________________

Yeah, that's probably not an AAA. In my experience...
A is about 150k
AA is about 175k
AAA is about 190k
However, it varies a bit, because your score isn't calculated the same way as your EX score. _________________
