i been noticing how these "new" members' postings and you can tell they have not yet read the DDRFreak FAQs at all!
i see them posting stuff like "what are your favorite songs?" when we all ready have them on "sticky".
i also see most of them saying "whoa! MAX2 is out now? i gotta burn this game as i have no money" "can anybody tell me where i can download DDR games?"
i knows its sound too much, but maybe when new members sign up...maybe you can automatically send them a letter telling to READ the FAQs before doing anything on the broads. these people just aren't listening... |

Personally, I think we cut them too much slack. When registering, it has a seperate page for "I have read the FAQ", yet we still let them get by with plenty of stuff. |

I was one of the few who actually read the faq. Because once you know the rules, you can break them. And get 8 points _________________

Perhaps you have common sense.
Because that's what 99.9% of the FAQ is. |

word.
I think if you do something stupid that is covered in the faq you should get points. Like ask about Vivid members or something stupid like that. |

The point is, I didn't get away with it. When the max is three, I think mine was a two-point offense.
But too often, we let things go on with a "oh, you'll get points next time!" and we're done with it. |

Duece got told.
Look at it this way: When they do get points, they'll get an increased number of points because of that leaniancy(ouch). God only knows how many times I've gotten away with some things, only to get 3 points for a simple flamebait. _________________

Warn levels are 1/2/3/6/9. Believe me, 3 is not the most.

Two potential reasons for this:
-If you've been warned before for something, and you get warned again, you're likely to get more points for the second warning than you did for the first.
-Mods don't warn for everything, but they certainly do keep track. If they let you slide on something, they may "make up for it" on a later warn.
Karma. Ain't it a doggy? (Yes, I mean doggy. Not bitch.) _________________

Yeah, thats what always happens with me. I just wish they'd let me know when they let me slide, so I can...you know, avoid doing it again for a while. This would greatly cut back on how many warning points I have. But then again, I'm already paranoid that whatever I type is going to be read by the wrong person and I'm going to get banned for typing "Yeah, I really like this game - here's the reasons..." so it'd be kind of pointless now.
...Hey, I can dream, can't I? _________________

Back in the day, evn was begging for a nine point warn, so I assumed 9 was imposible.
I've never heard of anyone getting 6, so I assumed 3 was the max. Oh well =/
BoD: No, I did not "get told." I said basic members never get points at al, and was pointing out in the other instance that I thought my points were excessive.
Spike didn't "zing" anybody, try as he might. And I bet he tried mighty hard, too |

These forums seem to be moderated pretty well, there doesn't seem to be any major problems, just little things every once in a while... I think the mods are doing a great job... Don't see a need to be more strict or anything. _________________

Well, I guess my question would be "Are the same basic members getting away with the same crap and not getting warned?"
It's understandable for a basic member to not fully understand the rules, or to make a mistake. We want to have a forum that is open to all sorts of people, and so being COMPLETE hardasses might push some of those people away. So, if it's their first mistake, we normally let it slide. If someone postwhores over and over again, or does the same things over and over again, then they get warned.
I don't really think that we are letting the same basic members get away with the same stuff. True, there may be similar problems that exist in a forum because one basic member doesn't learn from the other's mistake, but at the same time, the older members aren't always that helpful when it comes to teaching the rules _________________

We used to be really helpful.
That is, until we became forum nazis. Then it wasn't cool anymore. |

Then the whole apathy thing started to kick in.
Not to mention the need to look sarcastic and witty at the same time... _________________

So that's why I got by on a flamebait and then got a 2-point warning for a bad choice of words that led to escalation of a flame war (while being too lazy to go PM a mod). _________________

I've heard of 1/2/3 point warnings, but 6?, 9!? what do you have to do to get that? Hack the site or something? I seem to recall hearing about someone doing that actually, but I won't say who. And is Niq still enforcing the "random chat rule"? I thinks its BS, posting a link as harmless as outwar should not merit an instant ban. |
