I got a few questions if anyone can answer em.

When was DDR invented?
When was DDR first released in the U.S.
How many songs all together are in all 8 mixes?

If anyone knows be much obliged about it.

Well the first thing you need to know is that there are more than 8 mixes of DDR, Extra mix, the solo series, the Oha kids, Disney, the plus games, and thats just counting Japanese mixes.

This sounds suspiciously like someone too lazy to do their own research for yet another academic assignment on DDR. *sigh*

DDR first came out in 1998, I believe. In the US, I think the PSX version came out in 2001, but I honestly have no idea. And If I were to wager a guess on how many songs there are, total, it would be somewhere between 600-700, counting the smaller versions.

1998, and I believe it was released here in 1998 as well. And as far as how many songs all together from DDR count them. Don't be lazy. biggrin.gif

Obviously one can't seriously discuss DDR without referring to its true origins, the Bemani series, and BeatMania... I fear I don't have specific information on this myself, but I am asking myself: what was THE first ever music/beat/rhythm based video game?

I have heard that also, and I know that someone knows where it is (Maybe Aaron?). But there is only one in the entire world...

I've seen a drawn picture of the game. Looks like a combination of a DDR machine and a PPP.

I assume you mean "released to the public". October, 1998 (In Japan)

Wasn't until 99 (DDR USA), I think, but then again, I didn't pay much attention to Bemani outside Japan at that time...

Good lord, I have lost count long ago. Not only are there 8 major releases, but then you have all the in-between ones such as DDR Club Mix, DDR Club 2, DDR Solo, DDR Solo 2000, DDR Kids, DDR Karaoke (okay, this one shouldn't count; it is sort of a hybrid machine, and would add 15000-20000 songs to your list (i.e. Just add every song in the "DAM" karaoke book/list, if they even have it online to count...no way in hell am I going to count all the songs in the book), DDR 1.5, DDR 2nd Link+ Version, 3rd+, 4th+, Dancing Stage: True Kiss Destination, Dancing Stage: Dreams Come True, all those US mixes and European Dancing Stage machines, and others I am probably forgetting.

If you don't include DDR Karaoke, I'd estimate somewhere around 700-800 songs, but I could be off on that count, and it is past midnight here as it is; i.e. I'm sleepy. Oh, are we including DDR songs in home versions only?

Oh yes, and about that Karaoke mix, here is the link to Konami's page on it (Japanese only):

http://www.konami.co.jp/am/AM/quick/html/dam.html

...and to answer a question I've been asked before, though some people already know, "kara" = Empty, "oke" is short for "Ookesutora (Orchestra)". Karaoke = Empty Orchestra.

Hmm and I always thought it meant "tone deaf"

According to Dave Barry, it is "a combonation of the words 'kara', which means 'middle aged guy' and 'oke', which means 'getting drunk and singing in public until people want to hit you over the head with blunt objects'."

I have a question about that... I played DDR 1.0 at the Fall 1998 TGS, October 10, but I had heard about the game before the show from some guy that said he saw it in Osaka. "It's like Beatmania with your feet." So, was it just really, really early October or late September when it was released? It was out before the TGS.
