I've managed to figure out most of the step patterns, and can do pretty well in a song ....until i almost fall on my face. I'll be playing something like max300, and start to lose my balance, then have to walk back onto the pad, usually as the announcer tells me i failed.

Could anyone offer any advice on ways of keeping you're balance?

My main weakness is stamina, 220 combo on PS and a fail, 240 combo on Max 300 and a fail, and so on. Cata's... I've beaten pretty much everything I've had the chance to try. But one other problem.
A typical end result for me will be oh... 300 perfects, 160 greats and 5 miss's. No AA's and no FC's because I make REALLY stupid mistakes like forgetting what I'm doing in the middle of a turn or missing a jump by er... jumping to far erm.gif or something equally as dumb. I'm not sure theres anything you can say that might help, but hey it can't hurt to try.

LOL @ Orangecow! I dont know how to fix that, but I have a problem of my own. I can pass many maniac songs, and not do TOO bad on them, but the steps that always get me are wehen theres a 1/8 beat, and then right after, a step w/ 2 steps same time. I ALWAYS mess up on these, and it seriously affects my end result. Anyone got any advice?

I hear about all of these guys passing 6-7 and more foot songs.....um.....i cant pass even a 6 footer! barley pass with a D on 5 feet to 6 feet on DDRMAX at my house and havent been to an arcade much (cant drive ugh) any tips for a home-bound novice like me? i do songs like overblast, groove 2k1 and the like, but paranoia mixes kill me

What i like to do (especially for Paranoia) is to go to the Training mode and take the song slow, get all the steps, then gradually over time increase the speed. Try to memorize the hard parts as well and (it might seem kinda weird) but practice in your freetime away from the board, even if its just running the arrows through your head.

I think most people have a problem with staminia.....including me

SO ANYWAY. Been playing for 6 months and i started tackling the 9 foot songs out of curiosity. And i just cant do it. I dont know whats the matter. Its not my stamina, but i think it has something to do with turning on fast songs IE: AfRoNoVa* also i have this problem with galloping such as in matsuri japan. is there anyway to solve this?


I really wanna be able to do more catas then just bag x3 and i feel the only way to do this is beat those 9footers. Im happy just playing and doing tricks on 8foot songs but times are changing and the ddr community keeps getting better and better....

well you are screwed, lol j/k what i would recommend doing is playing stages with an easy to follow beat (peace-out has like on of the easiest beats to follow) and naturally you will progress and be able to listen to the beat of harder songs. another option is to watch real good people play (like people who FC stages and get AA(A) and the like) and listen to when they hit their feet in a song. after watching Yasu play Max 300 like a madman my brother was able to follow the beat MUCH better since he hits the pads so hard.

Well, my problem isn't stanima. (I guess im in pretty good shape.) My problem is making stupid mistakes like someone said earlier, and one other thing.

You know when you have to hit 2 of them at the same time?(dont know the technical term) but its not left.gif right.gif or up.gif down.gif you know wut i mean? like when u gotta do UL or UR or DL or DR, by the time i figure out which ones to step on, its too late

if you are having problems with stupid mistakes then start playing oni courses - you'll learn not to make mistakes very quickly.

You can practice theese by making an edit of a slow song with lots of step-jumps or by playing something like We Will Rock You heavy

Also, may I reccommend Gradiusic Cyber and Trip Machine Climax (both Maniac) to practice that. tongue.gif (For home version DDR Max)

I've got you beat! 470 combo on PARANOiA Survivor and fail! PARANOiA Survivor has only 528 max combo! I was *puts fingers together* this close to FCing it, but I was just too tired so I failed it. -_- Lame.

Oh, I know. Unlike the MAXes, I've actually passed it once. I got 425 or so combo and a B. I can't even come close to passing MAX 300, so I know it's pretty easy.

I'm just saying that I'm pissed off about stamina, because I was about 50 steps away from full-comboing the song when I got tired and failed it.

Can you count to four?

Seriously, counting the rythm in you head (or even quietly out loud) can help so much, with lots of different steps. It helps you keep the beat, without having to constantly step in time and waste stamina. Also, many songs have patterns that repeat at regular intervals. For example, one-two-three-JUMP-one-two-three-JUMP; they always happen on the same beat of the measure, so you'll be more ready for it when it comes (and less likely to be caught off balance). I've even found that it helps with 1/8th and 1/16th chains; just count twice as fast, which is surprisingly more effective than just trying to move your feet twice as fast (I always seemed to get off-rythm and start piling up "almost"s). I used to waste so much energy on Orion .78 (civilization mix) adding extra steps to make it continuous 1/8th beast (starting around measure 10 for 7 or 8 measures), but counting 1-2-3-4-5-6-7, 1-2-3,etc. gives you that small chance to catch your breath.

I think this is perhaps the easiest thing to do, but is often overlooked or just forgotten by people with musical background or natural rythm, of which I have neither, but it hasn't stopped from AAing most of light (stupid Love this Feeling) and standard difficulty (still working on Aing all of heavy).

Actually, in terms of counting, I generally keep a constant beat going the whole time, rather than changing my count depending on the rhythm.

e.g.
1---2---3---4---

Long Train Runnin':
1-x-2x--3--x4-x-

Keeping that backbeat helps me stay onbeat overall, while still dealing with complex rhythms.

My main problem seems to be with turning (in general) and playing sideways (ie, the steady stream of down arrows with arrows to the left and right ala CSFILSM).

I've passed about 10 or so catas, even stuff like Baby Love Me (heavy) kicks my tail because of turning..

I've been practicing doing AM3P (heavy) and doing the start sideways instead of trying to doublestep (I guess that's the term for it?) and It's been aiding me in getting consistent B's and A's from it, but when I try to apply that to something like Rebirth or CSFILSM, it doesn't work too well. erm.gif

sooo, any suggestions/tips? would be appreciated.
