Relatively, song files don't take up a lot of space. The majority of the space taken by the DWI is the mp3.

I am not sure if I am following you correctly. How's bout you tell us what you are planning to do, if this procedure is actually possible?

I've changed the link on the first page to something that seems to work.

Ok my plan is this. I want to have multiple versions of DDR sorted into various files, a 1st mix folder, 2nd mix, 3rd mix, extreme etc. I want each of these folders choosable in game, and when you open them to list the songs in that version. If 1st mix had paranoia 180, and so did 2nd mix, i want that song to appear in both folders. But I do not want to have 2 copies of the mp3+dwi+folder. The reason I dont want 2 copies is partly so that if I get a good score in one folder on a song it will be shown on the other folder, another reason is memory issues of course.

As far as I know, impossible. I would stick to where the song originally appeared as a default sort. Like Extreme does.

Didn't even know they made that and I am sure it slows the performance.

Where did you download this from?

I'm using Stepmania and currently, i am having a problem with the randommovies, i know where to put it, but i dont know how. I mean like make a new folder and put the folder containing the files in the Random Movies Folder.

Very confusing, but would someone give it a shot and help me?

Thanx for your time.

Not confusing at all...
In the random movies folder there should be a file called READ ME FIRST.txt or something similar, inside it will say 'Place random movie files here'. Quite simple really, just put the avi files straight into that folder. Simple as.

I hate to bust in here and interrupt but im experiencing a problem with DWI. I've downloaded a bunch of mp3 and their coresponding DWI files but DWI won't recognize them. I've looked in the DWI file and it's not set to smaniac or anything. If someone can help me out I'd really appreciate it, my dancing is suffering!

I'm developing a really cool DWI for Colors Original Mix from IIDX, it's like 5 minutes long and is gonna have lots of steps. I'm using X-Step to make it but the bar limit is 100, I'm currently at 2:40 and have reached the limit. It won't let me add bars. Does anybody know how to get around this? I only want to code the rest in notepad as a last resort because not having the visual for the rhythm is pretty hard.

I am getting from your post that you know how to make the physical part of the dwi (the arrows) but you don't know how to synch the arrows with the music.

When you look in a DWI it will definitely have these parts:
#FILE:__;
#TITLE:__;
#ARTIST:__;
#BPM:__;
#GAP:__;

located at the top. File is the mp3 file, title and artist are self explanatory. The BPM and GAP can be tricky.

You'll need to first find the BPM. Winbpm is a good program to get to find it. Round that number to a whole number (usually). That should be your BPM.

The GAP I personally find by trial and error. The gap is the space between when the mp3 file starts playing and the arrows. The bigger the number, the bigger the gap between the arrows.

The rest can be found in the tutorial on the first page.

Thanks for the help Phrekwenci......but i think i put that the wrong way. my deal is.......there is the really easy step editor in stepmania(i'm sure you know what i'm talking about) and i know how to edit steps with that. Steps of complete dwis i downloaded. but i don't know how to take some music i like, put it in the game, and make steps for it. i kinda looked at the readme but i can't really find what i'm looking for...probably just didn't look hard enough. and by the way, I really enjoyed the Solitary. I freakin' love pump music.

I am aware of the editor, though I haven't used it. I think that editor will only create a SM file for Stepmania only.

Well that little tutorial I gave in the previous post will get you started with doing it in notepad as a DWI. In the SM editor I actually have no clue. There is a link to a tutorial in the first post of this thread that will give you the rest about making a song into a DWI. The only way I personally make DWIs is with notepad. The steps come out much more directly that way.

i kinda get what you are saying (a little confused about making the steps in notepad) but i get the rest. you really should try the SM editor though, it has this awesome feature where it plays the track as you tap out the steps you want to make and then go back and edit and whatnot. but i think you are right and it is a SM file. thanks for the help.
