I'm reading a bunch of people say they've got dead metal pads, and that, i think, is really saying something... i mean thers tons of people complaining about mymybox and CG, and that is what we call wasted money.
AS for CF, if youve seen the forums, those guys are totally in for you. So.. Im just gona wait for a while until i decide. Im really thinking CF, but if any of you metal pad users really have some important insight, you gotta tell us.

We really need some honest reviews on the CF pads. And also, is it better to use socks or shoes on the CF pads? I've seen pictures with both. _________________

I have a cobalt flux and its great. Yes, its all a flat surface, but the center is raised a little bit. I can tell when im on the arrow or not with the center. You will get used to it, it only took me about a day. The pad is also very resonsive. If it is unresponsive, all you have to do is loosen/tighten the screws on a step to make it more responsive or less responsive. My pad doesn't move at all with the four griptape things I got and my c-box plug hasn't even came close to falling out. If you have any questions, e-mail them and Vance or Matt will reply pretty fast. They have the best customer service. _________________

Question for those that can help.
I bought a metal pad when they first came out. (the original 4 button pads)
Anyways its just about dead now. And im looking to get a new one.
I have read the reviews and the mods for the different pads, and i just have a few questions.
I cant afford the CF pads, because i need to buy two, one for my Girlfriend and one for me. So we were going to buy the Cybergames pads. The question i have is about moding them..
with my 4 button pad, you could not remove the rubber pads on the bottem because there is a junction box where all the wires come together, and the electic board is held. This "junction box" stick out about a half inch lower than the rest of the pad.
Does the cybergames have this as well? If so, how do you remove all the rubber pads under that mat and keep the matt level?
Also, how important is it to replace the plastic covering the arrows? Do they break that easy?
I only weigh about 155lbs, my Girlfriend about 120lbs.
Also, does anyone have any experiance with the new "version 2" pads?
They soposidly are not made up of 9 individual pieces, but a solid metal pad.
If you know anything about them, please do tell.
Any info you have helps a lot.
Thanks

Thanks for the help.
Im in the process of buyinga house right now, so the CF pads are just a little too pricey, although I would LOVE to have one. Maybee I will treat myself later.
Good point about moding the CG pads. Never thought about it that way.
Does anyone have any experiance with the "New version 2" pads, that are made of one peice instead of 9 peices?
Thanks again! _________________

revolutionzero: those are not very popular, because i havnt heard anything about them, appparently people do not use them, they are plastic it seems. Steer clear of plastic, but the price for those are really cheap compared to the other prices for that pad at othre sites. But if its plastic, DO NOT get it. If your in the $60 price range, get the ignition/DX style soft pads, they are really good. If your going metal, your gonna have to spend way more than that-take a look areound the soft and metal threads _________________

Has anyone ever used a metal pad called Konamix Metal Pad Ver2? You can find them on eBay. I was wondering if they are any good.
[Edit] never mind I found out it's the CG one |

I am just wondering if anyone has owned a CF pad for 9 months or more. I know they may seem indestructible, but then again, so was the Titanic. And I'm a helpless narcississtic pessimist to cheap to save the money to buy really good pads the first time out. _________________

Just got my "version 2" pads off of ebay...make sure you get these becuase they are a lot sturdier. Also the metal contact is a sheet on metal on the back of the arrow instead of some foil tape. I am trying to snake another at a good price. One went for 28 bucks yesterday! With shipping that's about 80 bucks!!! You can beat that with a bat!!!

I was just curious, how well do the pads over at redoctane.com fare?
Link: http://redoctane.com/ddrmetalpad.html
They are $30 less on sale, and I live in Sunnyvale, so pickup would be a uber plus for me.
Can you gimme and pro's and con's for these pads?
Also to summarize the quality rating, can you see if this is correct?
Dance Performance Pad (8 circle button pad) < Cyphergames < BNS Metal Pads (buynshop.com) < MyMyBox Pads < Cobbal Flux
Where would the RO pads fit in?
Any help would be great. |

Before I even start on this let me say that yes Cobalt Flux are the best HANDS DOWN.
Now then, I keep reading lots of posts about how Cyphergames platforms are poopy and about dead metal pads and such. If you are not willing to open up the platform and do some light soldering when something goes kaput then by all means stay far away from ANY metal platform that is not CF. Hell, even with CF you might have to open it and rebow the metal.
I have two Gamesdepot platforms that I believe are the same as the Cyphergames ones. I had the problems that I read about here but I fixed them. The pads work fine and when something goes wrong I fix it. I had the start button wire break after about 3-4 months... resoldered it and it works fine. If you get ghost steps or constant contact on a panel open it up. It is likely that a scrap of the metal tape has stuck to the circuit board. Clean it. If, God forbid, a panel stops working entirely check the wire. You may need to resolder it. I have not run into any problem I could not fix. The platforms that aren't Cobalt Flux are not made like a CF.
I'm REALLY not trying to sound harsh or anything... sorry if you take it the wrong way, but this is what you will have to go through if you don't want to pay 300 for a CF. _________________

Yeah, CF pads cost 300$ for a damned good reason. Your not buying a CF pad, your investing in it. I mean you get excellent Customer service, and the pad is super-durable, and they even have proof of it's merit. It's a sure thing. I mean my friend bought some knock-off metal pad a week ago and the panels already broke. He's going to Lowe's this week to get some lexan cut. _________________

Who are the bozos that continuously bid early on metal pads hence driving the prices up? It makes no sense since no one EVER stops bidding because one person tries to "scare" the others off with a high bid. It just kills us all in the end.
Learn how to "snake" a bid and lets get the prices down...
This also goes for the "geniuses" trying to increase the prices on the old mixes.... |

If you can't afford a Cobalt Flux pad, what is the next best option?
Cypher Games?
Red Octane?
BNS? |

From my own painstaking experiences and thorough reading of both this post and its predecessors, go with CG, or save the 100-150 bucks up for half a cf. That's what I should have done. Just make sure you do whatever mods are suggested BEFORE use of a crap brand. I didn't and now I am going to have to save up for a CF all over again before getting a AAA _________________
