Dancing has it's "foundation". From that foundation builds a style of dancing. My friend dances to salsa and stuff. She told me the more advance salsa stuff comes from swing. I like Jazz/Hip Hop/Kpop/Bboy style of dancing. I'm still learning and trying new stuff. Freestyle is fun. I've learn off a friend(Jpeg) from what Mel B told him. "Enter a freestyle tourny not just to only have fun, but just to top what you've already done." I'll always keep that in mind. My first ddr tourny was at Riverside I was really nervous cause of the crowd. I memorized the steps and everything Just didn't work on a style. I find it harder that way. Second tourny was at Cyber Beat Nation. First Biggest tourny.. I downloaded and watch lots of kpop videos and try to mimic what they do. Spent so much time on a style and didn't memorize the steps. I find it easy that way. I find myself getting better at it more and more. I learn from watching those videos even the ddr fs videos is that the music tells you what to do.

Wait till I come to cali for one of those CBN tournaments. I'll show you locking.

On a note of locking. Locking to a song above 120 bpm is nuts. Its too damn hard. Thats a full arm work out. drool.gif Peace.

Freestyle is just dancing. It's good that you actually know how to dance if you are going to try it out. Look for dance vids for moves. Like check out some Usher clips or some Mr. Wiggles clips from the internet. Most of your best f/sers get there moves from these sources.

Most of the fs'er get their source from Micheal Jackson, Elvis Presley, Usher, and Janet Jackson. If you want to go for a Kpop perspective like I do you would want to get your source from, H.O.T., Yoo Seung Jun, BoA, Baby V.O.X.

My favorite freestyle moves to perform are:

Slides
Shuffling
foot-knee-handslap combo
Treadmill
Heel-toe tap (like tap dancing)
Liquid popping
Handstands
Backhand spring (only done once...and made a miss riiight.gif )
Apple jacks or swashtika kick
L-kick
any variations involved with a freeze (like handplant freeze)

Ok...The Iceman knows how to do the most of these moves but:
Liquid Popping, The L Kick, Apple Jacks and the Swastika Kick...Can someone tell the Iceman how to do those moves. They sound hot to do. laugh.gif

well... liquid popping isn't a move, it's a style of dance that's a mixture of Pop & Lock and Liquid. It can be REALLY fun to Liquid Pop or Pop & Lock on DDR... I do it all the time. The, affectionately nicknamed, "L Kick" is actually a Capoeira move named Au Batido. It was made popular by bboys and changed names quite a bit. Apple jacks and Swastika kick are break moves... but im not sure what they are; E15.gif

All of it takes practice! [look for Mr. Wiggles for Pop & Lock and Likquid Pop (also named Likquid Eric) for Liquid Pop videos (he's part of the Liquid Pop Collective)]

A hint to all newbie pop and lockers out there: (no, this is not DDr related, so kill me) Even though Michael Jackson studied and performed some pop and lock... PLEASE dont look to him for instruction... He will influence your style TOO MUCH... trust me, it happened to me... before I knew it, I was poppping my shoulders while making my legs go crazy, saying "uh!" and grabbing my pelvis and thrusting!! It's a frightening revelation... stick to Mr. Wiggles, Likquid Pop, DJ 8-ball, the Electric Boogaloos, and others!

I'm thinking of doing some freestyle routines to Super Star and Rythym nd Police [K.O.G. G3 Mix]. Anyone have suggestions for what I could do?

I was thinking of a ghetto freestyle for Super Star, but I'm not exactly sure how I'd do that.

Yes, you did. Anyway ...

... practicing freestyling, I've realized just how much my hand movements have become so much more fluid by doing -- of all things -- Dance Maniax before freestyling. laugh.gif Good stuff. The local arcade here has a Dance Maniax and a DDR Extreme, so you get the leg movements down plus you get to practice some pretty nasty and quick arm and hand movements.

Combine the two and its pretty cool.

I LOVE to freestyle...or at least try to.

I basically pick a song I know I can do and just ham it up at first. Then I take anything I threw in and incorperate it into an actual routine...I'm a very secure person and don't mind looking dumb in the name of self-improvement.

I think it works well...I can do a significant portion of quite a few songs without even looking at the screen.

Also, has anyone here ever actually leapt over the bar in enough time to hit the last jump/freeze in "Burning Heat" [DDRMAX2]. Is that even feasibly possible? Or is there not enough time?
