I've read all 12 pages of this soft pad discussion and I've come up with the idea that in fact pads like the Ignition pads with the dense foam insert does prevent some sliding. However what I was wondering in particular is how much sliding in comparison to a soft pad with the plywood Tommy Gun mod? You see I have two soft pads modded with the ply wood mod and love them both, they hardly slide at all even on Cata's. However, they are a true pain to take anywhere (say to a friends house or when I go on road trips) so I was thinking about getting some form of a Ignition pad and the dense foam insert if it of course can just be placed on a surface and at least somewhat compare to a plywood modded softpad on heavy songs, with respect to moving. So anyone tried both that can give me a comparison? I would greatly appreciate it. Oh and talking more about sliding then sensitivity, although a comparison of both would be even more helpful. To everyone asking about whether or not DX/Ignition pads slip around: From my experiances, they do slip around until you do some modding. -_-;;; The best way I've found to prevent my CG ignition pads from sliding around is to use the foam-grippy shelf liner you can buy at a hardware store. I think I went into pret-ty good detail on this stuff two or three pages back...

Oh, and I recently got access to a digital camera. Sometime soon I'm going to put up a website with a complete description/how-to on all the modding I've done to my DDR pads.

Ok, since my individual post was locked, I had to read all 12 pages of this. Makes no sence why every single person should have to wade through 9 pages of stuff about a chair mat mod, when that's not what I'm here for.

Well here I go.

I have 2 Ultra DX pads from BNS USA.
Evaluation- They slide some, but not very far. They are soft and responsive, and very sensitive. In fact, to the point where my pant legs touching them will set them off, thus requireing shorter pants. I also bought the "Set On" plastic textured covers for them, and did not like them. They DO NOT stay on for me, so I had to duct tape them around the edges. They also occasionally caused the aarows to go off when not pressed, because of the sensitivity of the aarows. Wear and tear- I have had the pads for 4 months.
I noticed after falling off the back of the pad during play that I had torn the stiching at the edge from the plastic. There was an actual tear in the plastic, making it impossible to fix, so I duct taped it to prevent spreading. This has happened on both my pads.
I opened the pads up, and noticed some tears in the thin layer of material on the bottom of the sensor half of the pad, so I duct taped them to prevent spreading.
2 weeks ago, during play, the right aarow on one of my pads stuck in the "on" position, rendering all right steps misses. I checked BNSUSA's website, and it contained no contact information. The pad is essentially ruined, so I may try cutting it open and having a look-see.

Since I am now down to one pad, my next project is making a metal pad throught the instructions found on this web site-http://www.digitaltorque.com/dancepad/instructions.html
My friend recently completed one, and is very pleased with it. I figure if I make it, if it does happen to break I will know how to fix it.

Now- I say we raise a public cry to either allow individual posts or to spread this topic into more specific groups, because it took me an hour and a half just to read everything here before posting.

From what monkeykins said, if he took good care of his pads, I'd be very unimpressed with their durability.

My DPR2 pads are both wonderful to play on after 2.5 months of VERY heavy usage (I leave them in the student lounge, so they get played on heavily an average of 6 hours/day or more). The pads still function like new.

They're basically just taped to plywood with no cover.

I tried to take as good care of them as possible. Like I said I had covers on them for a while, alternated usage between my two pads, and so on. Sure I was playing for about 6 hours a day, but there is really no excuse for it breaking down in only 4 months play.

Edit- I just watched your picture for 2 min before I realized it was repeating 4 steps.

Well I can honestly say I've never played on a plywood modded pad, but when I say they slide a little I mean that they slide enough to where they are not where they started, but the don't slide enough to where you notice it during play.

Are the pads they're selling at levelsix.com the same as the RedOctane 2.0 Ignition Pads?

They're not the same, but they're close. The only major difference probably is the foam insert. Levelsix has a soft insert while RO has a more firm (and therefore preferable) insert. Tho the RO and BNS pads appear to be identical, though in light of monkeykins' problems, I wouldn't buy from BNS. MYMYBox also seems identical, and I haven't heard of any complaints about their newer 2.0 and 2.5 Ignitions.

Levelsix would be good to get if you plan on doing a chairmat mod, or if you'd prefer a softer foam insert.
