ummm i fairly recently got a pad for at home and living in australia its hard to get it on psx so i got the psx to usb converter etc etc, all works fine except for the fact I can't hit the left arrow if my foot is on the right arrow but i can hit the right arrow if my foot is on the left arrow and the same with up and down. Does anyone have any idea what the prob might be and how i could go about fixing it? any help would be appreciated.

does the pad have buttons like x and o in the corners? If it does, make sure that when your right foot is on the right arrow, your foot is not touching the corner button. I don't know about your pad, but when i put my foot on any arrow, and a part of my foot is on a corner button, the next arrow i step on won't work.

Search through the rest of the thread, there is a lot of information about both of those questions.

Hi everyone,

First post here, I've been lurking for about a week. I wanted to thank you all for all the posts and information that you all have written in here about the home version of the game, soft pads, hard pads, etc. I'm pretty much a n00b to DDR, but I bought the Cyphergames softpads and DDRMax bundle for $80 after reading through everything, and I'm very pleased. I placed my order at about 2 AM Friday morning, they shipped Friday via UPS ground, and arrived at my house on Monday (I live in SoCalifornia). Everything was as-expected, the package was exactly what I ordered, both pads are perfectly operational, and the zippers didn't break or give me any heartache either. Basically, 100% satisfied with everything so far! Granted, the pads only have an hour or two of use on them, but overall I'm very pleased with what we got for only $80, and the responsiveness of Cyphergames to the order was top notch. Without this forum I wouldn't have known about either the pads or the retailer and undoubtedly would've ended up spending more money for an inferior product.

Thanks again!!

Hey, i'm new here, and i'm also new to home DDR... uh... stuff. Unfortunately I found out about modding home pads a bit too late. I had bought 2 DPR's from a GameStop, and one of them has started to become unresponsive. The lights blink and all that, but the steps don't register half the time.

Now, i'm sure you get this type of post a lot, and I apologize, but it's about 4:30am right now and I don't really feel like reading through all these posts looking for answers. riiight.gif

Gah, anyway, my question is, is anybody aware of a way to try and fix or repair dance pads that act this way? I would rather get troubleshooting advice from DDR veterans before going through the ordeal of getting it replaced. Thanks a lot, and I'm going to be sure to mod my "surviving" pad immediately, as well as the second one, whether it be repaired or a replacement. Um, right. So, thanks again. E4.gif

The only way to fix the pads if they're that far gone is going to involve opening them up.

1. Flip the pads over, so the grey smushy stuff is up.
2. Cut around the edge of the gray smushy layer ONLY with a good pair of scissors. You want to cut as close to the green border as possible, but don't mess up the stitching of the green border. You don't need to actually cut off the grey layer, you can leave the top attached.
3. Fold up the grey layer so that you can see the bottom layer of cellophane and metal grids. If anything is ripped or torn, repair it as best you can, using clear packing tape. Only tape to the side that doesn't have the contacts.
4. If the foam between the two layers of grids is fairly well destroyed, you'll just have to get a new pad. The only way to fix that would be to tear out all of the foam, cut holes in the grey smushy stuff, and use that as a replacement for the foam. (I've never tried this. I think it would be difficult)
5. If you can see or suspect that the other layer of clear plastic has sustained damage as well, you'll want to get to it by cutting the first clear plastic layer and the foam enough so that you can fold them up, the same way as the grey smushy stuff.
6. Repair the second layer of clear plastic the same way as the first, being sure to only tape on the side that doesn't have the metal contacts.
7. fold each layer back into place, taping each one to the green strip with something secure (aka duct tape)
8. At this point, if you want, you can remove the grey smushy stuff permanently and do a plywood mod. This has several advantages and a couple disadvantages, as I've described in a post a few pages back. Absolutely don't remove the grey stuff unless you plan to do a permanent plywood mod immediately.
9. Good luck and enjoy.

Has anyone tried using the high density rubber floormats that they sell at home depot as dance pad inserts? I've got a couple sets of these in our "workout/kids room", and they hardly deflect at all when you stand on them, and they're about the same thickness as the soft stuff that came with my Cyphergames pads. I think we paid about $20 per set at Home Depot, and they come in either gray or 4 primary colors (for kids). Obviously they'd have to be cut to fit.

If you aren't sure what I'm talking about, here's a link from fogdog - I don't know this is exactly what I bought at Home Depot, but it sure looks the same.

Yeah, I used those. They work beter than the white foam from the Ignition 1.0, but I've never tested it against the 2.0. Now that I look back, it was a waste of money since I'm building a metal platfrom now. E13.gif

OK, I have read many posts on this forum for the past couple weeks. I am ordering a DDRMax Bundle for my PS2 today, and I am unable to choose for myself which one to get. Which is where I need everyone's help.

My two options are:

The Red Octane Ignition 2.0 bundle- DDRMax game, and 2 Red Octane Ignition 2.0 dance pads for $199. Backordered for 1-2 weeks though.
http://www.redoctane.com/ddrmaxusa2ignipad2covers.html

or

The MYMYBOX Premium Dance Pad version 2.5 (two of them), and the DDRMax game for $219.95. Available now.
http://shop.store.yahoo.net/mcpmall/ddrb003.html

I don't necessarily want to wait 1-2 weeks, but if the MYMYBOX pads are absolute garbage, then I would. Cobalt Flux pads looked good, but they were a little too spendy. I would like to only pay $250 at the most for a bundle.

My wife is dying to get into this, and I was supposed to figure out which to get a while ago, and it seems like these two options are the best deals.

What does everyone recommend? I am going to a doctor's appt. right now, but when I check back later today, I would like to place an order. Any help or advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks very much!

I went with the Cyphergames bundle after reading on here that their pads are essentially the same as the Ignitions etc, just with a lower quality insert. I paid $80 for the pads + game from Cyphergames, so I guess if you think the inserts are worth an extra $100.. E19.gif

Also, since we were new to this, I couldn't see spending that kind of money just to find that we only used them for a couple weeks..

Anyway, this is what we got: http://www.cyphergames.com/noname10.html

I too bought the Cyphergames bundle, but it can't just be pad difference, can it? Red Octane is selling theirs for $20. http://www.redoctane.com/ignition-insert.html

I think with Red Octane at least, the main thing you're buying is the trusted brand name. The BNS Ignitions at $49 might be closer to what you'd expect with a $20 dense foam insert.

does anyone know of a way to turn off these buttons when using the pad for PC? i've noticed this problem and this is my first experience with a home-pad (using one of the BNS ultra dx's). I guess I take liberties with where I step in the arcades...

also.. i noticed this other odd problem i couldn't account for.. in the maniac of One Two, when i tried the many LR and UD jumps in a row, i'd often hit one, miss the next, hit the next one, etc. i've never messed this up in the arcade either... any explanations?

I dunno, the picture looks pretty similar to what we got from Cyphergames but with red octane's foam pad, and even the description is the same (talking about "raised pads" under each of the arrows)..

I guess you're also getting the carrying case.. tongue.gif Like someone else mentioned, you're also paying for the name and their satisfaction guarantee - they claim it's the best pad you've ever used or your money back (or something like that)

okay, back again as a first-time home pad user:

this time i did a little research as to what the exact problem seems to be with my BNS pad right now - it seems that if i'm holding left, i can't hit right, and if i'm holding down i can't hit up. But the reverse isn't true (that is, I can hold right and hit left, and I can hold up and hit down). I'm using the parallel port adapters, and am not really sure why this is happening. I also get the sneaking suspicion that this might be the wrong thread for this, and if it is, i apologize. any thoughts?

I just recently bought a RedOctane Ignition 2.0 from GameStop, and after a month and some serious problems with GameStop (The first thing they sent me was a MOUSE PAD!!) I got it. It worked great back at the beginning of January when I got it, but now several of the arrows are starting to stick, the left and rights, I've attempted to correct this by playing occasionally without the insert in, and I've put some extra cardboard/foam inside the pad to also try and correct the arrows stick, but playing any difficult song will just make them stick again, because of hard steps.

My question was, would the chairmat mod fix, or mostly fix, the the sticking arrows so that my steps aren't detected? It'd save me a lot of money currently rather than buying a CF pad to replace my current pad.

Are you talking about using an adapter to plug your DDR pad into your computer? Then yes, this is the wrong thread. riiight.gif BUT, I can give you a little advice. From what I've read, of ALL the different kinds of PSX -> PC adapters, all but about two or three of them suck. The problem you're describing is because your adapter registers the directional buttons on an 'axis' rather than as regular buttons. I don't think you can fix this, but I could be wrong. If you want to order a replacement adapter and want to know which one to get, then read up on the 'Let's make a list of working PSX->USB/parallel adapters' thread. Hope that helps!

i bought a MMB 2.5 last weekend. i can't compare to the red octane, but i think this pad is fantastic. the raised arrows are a godsend; the thicker texture on the arrows (almost like calluses) make it near impossible to mis-step. you'll still want to mount it to plywood, however, otherwise it sags too much on carptet (i don't even bother to duct tape it down, just lie it on top and it won't move too much in a song). can't say about the covers, i haven't seen them but have my doubts as to their effectiveness.

thing is, i paid $70 for one at fry's in sacramento, so buying the bundle individually here would be $180+tax, not including the covers. not that much of a deal tongue.gif
