You tried, but I never got the confirmation e-mail. Oh well, this name is fine. I really don't care anymore. |

Hrm, I thought I changed your password and told you what it was...or something. I don't recall a confirmation email being necessary. If you'd like, I can change the username of the other account to something slightly different so you can switch back to that. PM me if you want to. _________________

A remember reading a thread about this last year. The mod said it was allowed, but the thread needed to be moved to the appropriate forum. I continued to read it for until the thread died, but nothing bad resulted from it.
There's a differance between advertising and Spam. If some random member makes his first post about how we can make $65,000/year, this is clearly spam. However, if someone has some had-to-find bemani stuff (like the thread about the VERY hard to find 4th Mix Plus that that member was selling on eBay), then I think this is actually a good thing that enchances the DDR community. For example, I remember posting a thread about how I wanted someone to build me a metal pad quite some time ago. I'm now building my own , but I saw anoher topic about that come up months later. The person in that thread also decided to build his/her own, but even if it would have ended in a sale, I don't think that would have been bad either.
However, there should be a point. If someone wants to sell TerTer boxes, for example, 1 thread about it wouldn't be that bad. However, if every time the person wants to sell a TerTer box, they open a new thread, that turns into blatent advertizing. Also, there should be a point where PMs are used. If someone wants to ask a question like, "Can you custom make X thing on Y component?" okay. If someone asks, "I sent my money order and it's been more than 5 days. Where's my item?" That belongs in a PM.
Lasly, Tournament discussion should be excempt from advertizing rules. _________________

About advertising:
If someone is selling something, such as a metal pad, for now put it in the metal pad discussion thread. We don't want a bunch of advertising threads cluttering the forums. If it's an advertisement for your site, it will be locked. Put it in your sig and advertise it there. _________________

Just add this simple sentence to the FAQ, right at the top.
"Spike and the mods are the final authority for any and all problems, questions, and policies relating to this forum. This is non-negotiable."
That simple sentence gives you the power to do anything. _________________

That=Bad Idea
For one, they can kick out everybody in these fourms if that was set up! And two, then the newbie will be having a hard time around these boards because if that was the only sentence, then he/she will be confused around here.I'll some times ask curtain questions that is NOT on the faq at all and if that's was the only sentence in the faq, then I'll have a-lot of questions to ask... |

He didn't say have that as the ONLY sentence.
What it means is, we have all these rules and then say "We are the final say in what goes and what is or is not allowed. Just because something isn't in the FAQ doesn't mean it is ok."
We get far too many people that argue that because something wasn't in the FAQ it's ok, or that if they argue with us then they'll get their way.

This isn't a public forum, so we could do that now =P _________________

IguanaGrrl: Maybe instead, it would just be good policy to suggest in the FAQ not to link directly to any site.
IguanaGrrl: I'm sure SA isn't the only site that would resort to those measures [You do not want to know. - Zoelef]
Zoelef: *nods* I agree.
The FAQ currently says - "However, it is generally preferable to link to large images than to display them directly."
I say - Do not directly link to images you yourself do not host.
That should be on the next update, IMO. _________________

So, wait, what you're trying to say is that, everyone needs to go out of their way to tell people that there is a slight chance that they may possibly get offended by an OPINION?
How about this: you sign on to the internet, read something, and if it pisses you off, either don't break the rules (i.e. flaming) or take your aggression out some other way. You can't blame someone else's opinion (such as "I think Cowboy Bebop sucks") for your actions. It would be quite easy to get out of warning points then. _________________

No, no, I think he meant that going "i'll warn you guys, this may piss some of y'all off" isn't a valid excuse for flaming people and thinking you can not get points.
You remember that discussion we had on the mod board the other day about just that happening? _________________

herm..not really interested in it for me (i just joined a couple months ago) but i've heard several people talk about being mods, and all it says in the faq is "no"...maybe it should explain how you can become one...or if its even possible... _________________

We have it like that because if we said "Well, we all became mods this way" then we'd have a bunch of people kiss ass and be wannabe mods EVEN MORE. It's annoying enough as it is to have 5 people say "THEES SHUD B LOX0RD." The chances of someone becoming a mod are (approximately) 1 in 10,000 (going off of the estimate that we have about 20 mods and 20,000 users, but we don't have as many active mods, and more users). So it really is pointless to say how you can become one, because even if you knew (and its pretty common sense: "fit the qualities of a moderator of the board" ) that doesn't mean you would become one.
Amazingly, those who want to be a mod more than anything else don't really become one. Those who deserve to become mods don't scream for the desire to be one, and for the most part don't even express a desire to be one. We ask people if they want to be a mod, not the other way around.
Basically, if we put anything other than "no" it would make the wannabe mod problem even worse, and would make people annoy us even more with lame PM's asking us to be mods. _________________

The best solution = don't say anything about it.
Sounds good to me
So all of you shut up about becoming mods now, you hear? _________________

But apparently you don't need to know mathematical statistics to be a mod...
By that equation, the chances are 1:1000.
Sorry for being the nitpicker, but that was bothering me. _________________
