Good God!! Of the 4 area PUi machines, the cheapest is the Prex, at 25 cents a game, and every other one( 2 Premiere 2, Perfect) is 50 cents. But ony the perfect is at an arcade, but still, 1.25 is crazy for a game. _________________

Pump It Up is the first dance arcade game I've played... I remember my friend had the home version of DDR, and when she saw PIU in the arcade she goes "That looks familiar..." and makes me play it. What's that song... Wayo Wayo or something like that is a weird song but IIII LIKE IT! Once I ran out of time and it chose a Britney Spears song for me... blahh. It's 75 cents ferrr 3 songs (went down from $1.00... I guess they thought it was too much to play a game that skips the song so much) at Chesterfield Towne Center in Richmond, Virginia, but it's hardly ever working. People stomp on it way too much. I'm there pretty much every weekend, so you can probably find me there screaming "WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY?!!" at it. I saw a guy do the turkey march and holy freaking frick, I sat there simply amazed. Of course I still like DDR better |

Hi guys
I'm a resident PIU player, didn't know there was a PIU thread in the DDRfreak forums. Too bad there's only one thread though. No multiple topics on PIU, just one large thread. Or am I missing something?
I've been playing Pump for over a year, and I've been able to pass Beethoven Virus Crazy, and I seem to average about level 6 and 7 on most Crazy songs, with a few exceptions.
I also make sim files for Stepmania (in PIU mode only, have yet to make a DDR only step file) and Kick it Up. If you ever visit www.kickedup.com under the archives, my songs are under the name ROC Zombie. I make frequent DDR conversions like Exotic Ethnic and Tsugaru. I am currently working on Matsuri Japan (the remix). Is there a sub title to this song? The 5th mix version is also called Matsuri Japan and I am creating the 6th or 7th mix version (?)
If you play Kick it up, I also have a Premiere 2-ish looking skin that I posted.
I'll be in Las Vegas this week, and I will try out Technomotion for the first time. Hopefully Pump Platinum 3 will hurry up and get realeased. It's been over a year now! Konami makes a new DDR every 8-9 months it seems.
As for DDR, I am maybe an average of 6 - 7 feet on Heavy/Maniac.
EDIT: I've also made a lot more sim files under the name Rico before I changed it to Roc Zombie |

woah you are taking ddr songs and modifying them to PIU steps? Sounds interesting. Even though I still think ddr is better and PIU will always be known as the creative ripoff, I like the idea of adding a couple of songs to PIU. Mainly End of Century and Healing Vison would be pretty cool |

Why the heck is a there a sticky PIU thread here? Not that that would be a problem in itself but locking other PIU threads and referencing people here is just retarded. I mean, heeeloooo, there are a gazillion beatmania threads on this board and lots of threads for most other bemani games as well. Why exactly do certain people feel the need to single out one game and restrict it's presence to a single thread? It makes no sense to me. |

Because most PIU threads that are started here are of any of the following forms:
Quote: | HEYYYY anyone else like pump????? |
Quote: | hey i saw this game at the arcade the other day it was like ddr only it had arrows in the corners anyone know what this is called? |
Quote: | Anyone play pump i can beat song x on crazy |
All of these fall under what would go in a sticky thread. If there was a specific question about Pump, I'm sure rampage would let it stand. He also has the habit of locking a topic (no matter what game the question is about) when it's been answered.
Back on topic - I had a good chuckle the other day when I went over to the RedOctane page and saw their Pump page describe Virus Hard as "one of the toughest pump songs ever" when I can A that easily while Starian has been handing my ass to me for weeks (finally passed it a few days ago) and I can't even dream of passing Final Audition in any form. Sigh...me thinks RO needs an update. _________________

Mr.Larpus on hard is nuts.I don't even wanna think about Crazy...
I can usually pass about Level 6 on Crazy and Level 8 on doubles.I do doubles much better on PIU than DDR.On DDR I have trouble with songs on basic!Yet,I can flow along the board so much easier on PIU.Turkey March wasn't much of a problem, and yet a 4 footer on standard will kill me on DDR. _________________

The reason I hardly play DDR anymore is just that. Doubles are so much better on PIU and I almost play them exclusively now. What just pisses me off about DDR is that they have the nerve to charge you 2 pounds ($3) for a doubles game (3 songs) in the UK. Is this the same in the US, btw? On PIU you can even get 4 songs for 1 pound. I managed to clear Loner and Turkey March yesterday, . Then I tried Beethoven Virus , bad idea. I play Crazy occasionally (can do Lv. 6) but Hard is just more fun when it comes to single play, although it's too easy. But then again, double play is more fun than single play anyway. |

It's not so much about the "nerve" of the machine charging you; there's a setting on DDR machines for "Joint premium" that'll let you play doubles for one credit. Of course, it also lets you play versus for one credit, so most arcade owners don't turn it on.
If your arcade owner is charging a pound for a game of DDR, it's because he knows he can get away with charging that. Pump is not as popular, so they charge less.
And I agree that Pump doubles are fun - I could play Another Truth on doubles until my eyes bleed. _________________

Is it me or is the doubles mode on PIU less forgiving than the doubles mode on DDR?? I mean in DDR I could pass a lot of songs on doubles (not perfectly though) but the other day I was playing ferryboat on doubles and I literally missed 2 steps and it was like STAGE FAILED!!!!! yikes I felt dumb
Depends where you play DDR in the UK, most of the time its only 50cents to a dollar to play one song. Sometimes it can be 2 or 3 but it depends where you go.

It ain't just you. DDR lets you miss steps until your bar is drained, the red light start flashing, and Danger shows up. Pump lets you miss 4 steps in a row, then Danger flashes, then 1 more miss and you are DEAD even though you could have still finished the song with an A! |

Learn to do a couple songs completely sideways, and you should do better on Winter. Some of those nasty turns require you to turn clockwise 90 degrees while hitting steps.
Half Double is fun. I dont know why people avoid it. It really keeps you in focus when Full Double comes around.
I wanted to throw in a few last comments about the annoying "piu is a ddr ripoff" battle. In my opinion, Konami made a great game with great ideas, but there was plenty of room for improvement. Why 4 steps in a + sign, when there can be 5 steps in an X form. Why still background images (on 1st mix) when there can be anime-style art and videos in the background? Andamiro saw this, and acted upon it, but instead got slapped with a lawsuit. Yes, the scrolling arrows may have been a copyright, but there are sooo many differences between ddr and piu.
Do you hear people saying "Every computer is an IBM ripoff" or "Every VCR is a Magnavox copy"? No, becuase they have improved upon the original. Same concept, same technology, just new features and new ideas.
Now Konami did take a few elements from piu after it gained popularity. The hold steps were a piu first, and I'm sure the ultra-smooth animation found in Long Train Running and other songs would not be there had there been no competition from Pump.
I just think there is a big culture difference that makes DDR so much more popular than PIU, along with Konami's name and reputation on Playstation consoles. I love both games, but this is a matter of innovation and improvement, and not ripping off and stealing ideas. If everything was protected, there'd be only a couple styles of everything, and no variety. |
