Another quick question...
Doing this chair mod + particle board mod, should I cover my mat with a dance pad cover? If so, where can I buy one of these? Do any local stores (E.B. or Funcoland) carry them?
Thanks again. |

I don't know why you would need to do BOTH the chair mat and the particle board mods.. the goal is to get something firm under the soft pads, if you use particle board, why would you need the chair mat?? They serve the same purpose!!
As for pad covers, BNS soft pad cover review ($9.95):
http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=47606
The pad cover isn't essential IMO unless you want a textured surface instead of a smooth surface.. you can also use any kind of clear heavy plastic covering, such as the one on the Tommy Gun mod (see top of thread). |

Hey, I'm new to these forums and I wanted to know if anyone has tried the Kommax Heavy Duty pads with the 1 inch foam insert? I haven't seen anything about them anywhere else. I just bought them and they are working really well so far but I wanted to know if anyone has had any problems with them or any mods specific to this pad. I'm thinking about doing the chair mat mod as soon as I get the funds. |

Ok, I think I'm going to return my "el-cheapo" Naki DPR2 pads and order new pads...
The pads from levelsix.com are the same as Cyper Games? levelsix has them for $13.95, but they don't appear to have a foam insert.. do they?
I'm looking at getting two pads around $25 each... |

No they are NOT the "deluxe" ignitions, and I doubt they have a zippered insert. I recommend buying two deluxe pads from cyphergames.com for $44.95.. |

Ok, since I'm doing the wood / particle-board mod and possibly the chair mat mod as well, should I get covers for my pads? I'm going to the order the Cyphergames $44.95 pads... Too bad I have to wait a week to get them, but oh well.... Should I buy covers ? They won't get used a TON, but maybe 9 - 15 hours a week or so. |

K, a couple of things. First off, which would you consider a better deal?
http://www.buynshop.com/productinfophp3/VG-DDR-ULTDX
or
http://www.buynshop.com/productinfophp3/VG-DDR-NXCB2
And secondly, I wanted to point out that Comp USA used to sell the Naki DPR2 pads, but for some reason, they were discontinued. I had mine for about a week and a half, and noticed that the left arrow was missing a lot more than it should, even when i KNOW i was hitting it, so I took it back looking to replace it (and then i would mod it) and they had to give me a refund. Just wanted to throw that in there. |

The only difference between those two pads is what goes inside the zippered insert. Either cheap generic foam insert or the "xtreme" bns insert. You can read my review of the Xtreme insert here:
http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=6717857
In summary: the xtreme insert is AMAZING. Totally worth the extra $14.95 .. it's so good, in fact, it may be the only mod your soft pad ever needs. Well, except for something to keep the pads from sliding in doubles and heavy single songs.. |

Actually, I guess what I was asking was should I get the 2x pads and try and mod them, or get the 1 pad and not worry about it? I think having 2 pads would be great fun, but if i could have 1 great one, that would be alright too i suppose. |

Definitely 2x pads! What fun is a single pad? You can't play vs., and you can't play doubles.. DDR is all about two pads.. |

Are the CyperGames Ignition DX pads the same as the Levelsix.com DX pads? With shipping, prices are the same from both places... however NC is much closer to me than California.
How are these levelsix pads compared to the cypergames? How is levelsix.com as a company? (do they ship quickly, accept RMA's, etc etc) |

i cant speak on pads from them, but in my 2 purchases from levelsix.com I have not had any problems with my orders. Might want to talk to someone who has needed to deal with their customer support tho to find out how they are in that dept. |

99% of the "deluxe" pads are the same.. and by the same I mean they come from the same Chinese factories.. check the pictures. As long as they're roughly similar (the graphics on the top can vary, don't worry about that) they are probably the same.
http://www.levelsix.com/products/playstation2/deluxeDDR.shtml
Just checked and they sure look the same to me. They are also out of stock until 2/05 if that matters to you.
I live in NC so.. |

Hmmm...
I'm really beginning to wonder if I should even return my DPR2 pads.
Are the levelsix/cypergames DX pads really THAT much better than the cheaper, DPR2 pads? I'm going to be modding them with plywood regardless of which pads I use.
Sorry for asking so many questions... you're all very helpful. |

I'd go with the DPR2, that is if you're commited to the plywood mod. Using a plywood mod on a DPR2 pad, or really any cheap pad, can put it at least up to par with an unmodded DX/Ignition style pad, if not better. DX/Ignition pads would need more than just a plywood mod to give them a significant performance boost. |

I agree.. if you're going plywood mount, the cheap pads are fine. I'm pretty sure I already said that either here or in another thread.. |

OK. I just bid on a pair of ignition pads on ebay. Here's the entry for it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3004979480&category=21185. So with the obviously jacked-up shipping, it comes to about $55 for a pair of what appear to be these: http://www.levelsix.com/products/playstation2/deluxeDDR.shtml. Although the seller has a reasonably good record, there are quite a few pissed off people, mostly with regards to some gameboy advances he sold a lot of. I didn't see but two complaints about DDR-related products, but I'm still a little worried. I have this unshakable feeling like I just got ripped off. I shoulda just springed for a Red Octane pad. Oops. Hindsight is 20/20. Any advice? _________________

ok, another quick question (Sorry about all these)
If I got these:
http://www.buynshop.com/productinfophp3/VG-DDR-NXCB2
then what kind of mod should i look at to hopefully allow these to last a while? I don't mind paying $50 for two good pads, but I really didn't want to have to shell out $40 more on chair mats to make them decent, if i'm going to spend that much, I might as well just build my own metal one for $120 and have an amazing pad. Would these pads last a good long time if they weren't modded? Since they are of these type, do they actually even need to be modded? Thx. |

Is it better to get the Ignitions off Ebay and get some inserts when BNS is in stock, or should I spend the extra $40 for a Cyphergames metal pad? |
