Discoman wrote: | In tourney freestyling, does one more often:
1) Freestyle on doubles or singles?
2) Use arrows as a freestyling base, or use blank space as freestyling base, or both?
(by #2 I mean do you pick songs with cool arrow movements and pattern freestyling to that, or pick songs with blank spaces and do whatever in that area?)
Thanks |
1. I like freestyling on doubles because there's a bunch of room to roam around giving you more ability to do moves. I once liked doing doubles, but now I feel I adapt better to singles.
2. I hate ghost stepping, so I like a song that has a good amount of arrows. What I don't like in patterns are jumps, so I look for songs that have not so many jumps or no jumps.
I use the arrows to guide me in my routine because I know where I can do a trademark move. Plus, if I get lost, I know where I can get back on track. _________________

No, no you don't.
Just step to the next arrows or pull off some KidZero sliding. _________________

About freestyle tips...
Judging a few comps may not give me credit at all for saying what i'm about to say, but knowing how to recognize what's good and what's not using common sense is above all; practical.
2 - Confidence and having good ol' fun!
Do you look like you're freestyling or getting a shotgun blast to the face?
1 - Originality.
C-Walk? If it has a name and if you wanna copy it, go ahead. but heed my warning of those snickering in the background.
What else can there be? Does it matter? it's still a game, so if you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong. Oh...i did those numbers in reverse...well, i forgot one more thing...
0 - Find your style.
There's nothing worse than seeing some person try to slow dance to Breakdown. Start with the music you like...and record yourself dancing. If yer style is appropriate for the song, you stuck gold. If not, Learn it and then go for it. If not, well, find something else... =) Practice makes good practice. _________________

Wheeee, I'm brand new! . Well, I'm not the best freestyler around (hell no im not, i can't even dance!!). I think people have already said it tho... just have fun with it. I mean, in general, people have fun watching you just make a fool of yourself (as i love to do...) hehehe. Just play your heart out and don't make it seem like you are trying to impress anyone... Just do it for the hell of doing it. If i said anything that is repetitive, i think im gonna throw myself off a cliff... j/k =D

Not understandable.

That's exactly why I like to freestyle. I just want to dance and have fun. And I hope I can get people in my area to do the same. _________________

being original is hard..but not impossible by any means.
i'm sure that there are still a whole bunch of dance styles with cool moves yet to be used. |

Freckles on single light is good for starting up. Lots of opportunities to slide and turn. _________________

someone needs to introduce the dance style "lockin'" to the ddr world... my god that would be awesome...
if no one will do it... then i will soon. |
i did it to long train runnin... well real freestyle and it was a "poppin and lockin" style so not just lockin...[/quote]
Regarding what 001ofMADSTEPZ said... sure being original is hard, but it's what separates the men from the boys. Off the top of my head, I can list a few moves of popular styles that still haven't been done (some of which I have pulled off).
And about what Liustyle said about "lockin." I do agree it would be mad sweet if someone had the finesse to pull it off smoothly. If I had time, I would try to take a taste of it, but I think I prefer my hiphop/breaker/filipino groovin style just sufficient enough.
And also, dj l3f7 3y3...if you have a video of that LTR routine, you should post it up ... I think everybody here would like to see how nicely you pulled it off.
Meanwhile, I'm still awaiting for the SW DDR Nationals tourny from NJ to be posted on the DDRFreak.com videos page. I pulled off a pretty 1337 routine, too bad I lost by theme. I think, if I am allowed to claim it, that I'm the first to pull off a quick clean b-boy brooklyn uprock move and smoothly link it into another transitional move. Whoops looks like I've said too much...
