Or maybe because they thought that Andamiro completely ripped off their idea...which is against the law where they sued Andamiro. In fact, if I were to make a game that was exactly like Zelda except I changed the name to "Zedla" then I would most likely be sued by Nintendo. Konami pretty much had every right to do what they did.

I've always been under the impression that Andamiro released PIU first, then KOJ stole the idea from Andamiro, released DDR, then Andamiro turned around and sued KOJ, then KOJ countersued E19.gif (whew)

Do you have any additional info that you can share, specifically regarding the two lawsuits? A brief history of the two would be much appreciated...

Well, as I understand it, Andamiro was first in Korea, and Konami was first in Japan. supposedly Andamiro was first overall, but DDR and PIU were independently developed. at least that's how I think it really is...

I'm sooooo glad. I rather liked the MAX2 color scheme better than MAX's.

Some requests....

* Bye Bye Baby Baloon
* Burning Heat
* Tsugeru (Damnit, I need some handclaps for standard so I don't look like a fool at my arcade)

And bring back Endless Mode from 3rd mix somehow plz. It would just take a slight butchering of Oni mode. (Not saying that Oni mode should be axed tho')

Daft Punk exclusives would also rock the house. But PLEASE dont compress the video that much. I want DivX on my computer, not my PS2.

Hate to say it, but the inclusion of many of e-rotic's songs would mean an instant M. frown.gif

Here's the songs, in order ofm ost innocent to least.

1) Cat's Eye. This is a normal eurodance song.
2) Kiss Me. Very minor sexual innuendo. "kiss me all over tonight." WOuld get by if not for the group name (heh)
3) In the heat of the night. Sexy, but nothing really offensive to soccer moms.
4) Test My Best. This one is about sex, but wil go over somepeople's heads. The woman, if you actually pay attentio to the lyrics is saying not only that the guy shodl have sex with her, but tht she particularly enjoys it ("and you'll find out i'm not faking") mention of orgasm=instant M.
5) Gimme Gimmie Gimmie. A bit more obvious then Test My Best. and it's a moan fest at times too. talk about "making iot tonight" clinches it.
6) Temple of Love. Okay, here they start getting more obvious. CLEARLY about sex, though not a single bad word. Still, it will get noticed.
7) Do It All Night. Here is where sensibilities really start getting offended. Parent's do NOT want their daughters singing that. E1.gif
8) Turn Me On. This seems less likely to piss people off until the rap lyrics start mentioning the g-spot. E1.gif BIG no-no right here. telling peole facts about sex? instant M.
9) Oh, Nick, Please not so quick. "Baby let's cum together." Need I say more?

Realisticall, tere are three possibilities, and the name alone knocks the group out anyway. frown.gif

Other stuff.

The game has an ALL NEW LIBRARY, according to the press release. That means... NO REPEATS. E1.gif

Now, like many other people here, I'd liek nothing more than to see the ratings board lighten up, and the presence of e-rotic songs in US ddr. After all, they've been in the arcades plenty, why not bring em home?

OMG, if they aren't putting red stickers on the arcade machines that have these songs, they won't put an M on home ones either. You people byching that they can't put Erotic are probably thinking about the attack one lady had at a bowling alley about Ecstacy, I think, and made them change the version that doesn't have that song.

Thanks, Spike.

And I do not want any E-rotic songs on the next mix. There are many other songs that people can enjoy without being about sex.

Let's get one thing straight.... E-ROTIC WILL NEVER BE IN A US VERSION OF DDR! Their lyrics are very suggestive and it would kill DDR sales since the game is mainly targeted as a family and party game.

Another song that will probably never see the light of day in a US DDR mix would be the Whistle Song. Even though the version on DDR is edited, the words "Blow My Whistle Baby" wouldn't fly into a family oriented game.

So Deep = YES - as far as a galloping song, uh, dude, there's Rhythm & Police.

Uh, From Solo will almost definitely make it in simply because Konamix *did* have 6-Panel mode (hell, you could call it DDR Solo USA if you were bored...).

Speaking of which, I want 6-Panel mode back. ::drools over thought of MaxX 6-Panel Heavy::

I'm sorry - I didn't see the notice from Konami saying "we're going to stop making new arcade versions of DDR" on their site. When did I miss that?

Seriously, what I expect to see Konami do is decide "uh... maybe we'll do the smart thing and make the next version of DDR officially be legal in both Japan and the US so that we're getting the money we deserve for selling it in the US". (Rather than the whole bootleg situation, for which Konami gets... ::pulls out calculator:: ...precisely JACK. No wonder they closed down the KOA Arcade division.)

I'm not so sure I'd go so far as to make that assumption. Just because the library is all new doesn't mean that the tracks are. But don't let me rain on your parade; you may well be right, I'm just a little skeptical :)

zaphod wrote:
Here's what I want to see.

1) A more advanced lesson mode, going all the way form 1 to at least 6 foot songs. They've go tthe space, certainly.

If it's in MAX2 Japanese, it'll be in ours. If it's not in the Japanese version, it almost certainly won't be in ours. Lesson mode has to be a very low priority to Konami - why else would they not have been updated by now, at least to include some rudimentary instruction on freeze arrows? Don't get me wrong - I'd like to see this as much as the next guy (though you might have to hide some of the more advanced lessons, as we don't want the newbies to play Lesson Mode forever and miss out on the real game!), but I really doubt that this is any more than a remote possibility.

zaphod wrote:
2) Oni creator. including edit steps. :)

Again, our version having this is largely dependent on whether the Japanese version does. I know, I know, we had Oni first, but bear in mind that this was partially due to the fact that oni support was already being developed so that it could go into the Japanese version of MAX2. It just so happened that it was at least complete enough that we got it - I seriously doubt there were any coders at KoA sweating over implementing it when KoJ had to anyway.

That said, let's hope. There's still quite a bit of time between the Japanese and American releases, and even if MAX2 Japanese doesn't have the feature, it's possible it would be developed for Extreme. Or maybe someone at KoA will get bored while they wait for legal to hack out all the licensing issues, so that we can have...

zaphod wrote:
3) a large number of exclusives.

...particularly US/Euro licenses. Not that I don't wish for plenty more Bemani crossovers (whoever picked out The Shining Polaris for us deserves a raise), mind, but licenses definitely add a tone of familiarity to the game...not to mention that even I can get tired of dj TAKA after a while (and who doesn't get tired of Naoki?).

zaphod wrote:

I don't think so, Tim. At least not while DDR is still around in Japan (though its days seem quite numbered. Would be interesting, though.

I'd put my money on So Deep over Look at Us -- if only 'cause a) it might be cheaper to license and b) everyone was harping on the lack of So Deep in MAX USA. I wouldn't turn up my nose at Look at Us, of course, but I don't expect it. MaxX/Kakumei are fairly foregone conclusions, though.

15) Tribal Dance. (2 Unlimited)
16) Twilight ZOne. (perhaps the mix from DR?)
17) Get Ready for This. (2 Unlimite,d of ocurse)
18) CAll Me. (Le CLick)

Good, Boo, Great, Perfect, Boo, Good, Great. Though I'd be honestly surprised not to see Heaven, if it's at all within their budget. After the collective population of this board positively creamed their pants over the fact that the oft-requested Sandstorm made it in, KoA'd be fools not to go after such an obvious crowd-pleaser this time around.

My picks:

Believe / Cher

Can't Fight The Moonlight / LeAnn Rimes - whatever the name of the remix that's occasionally played on the radio. The original version wouldn't be that good for DDR.

Movin' On / Double Dutch

Silence (Airscape Remix) / Delerium feat. Sarah McLachlan

Sweet Dreams / La Bouche (IMO, better for DDR than the Eurhythmics song by the same name)

Total Eclipse of the Heart / Nikki French (the 80s-style version)

Vogue / Madonna

And just for evilness purposes...

Rodeo (Hoe-Down) / Aaron Copland - you know this tune even if you don't think you do - think "Beef...it's what's for dinner".

And while I'm at it, might as well throw in a Bemani wishlist. Jason, if you or any other KoA rep are reading this, get the guy who got us The Shining Polaris on the phone and impress upon him the importance of spreading the love of L.E.D. Light further. I want my Infinite Prayer (and the reinterpretation of The Big Voyager it apparently inspired). I want my Love is Dreaminess. Heck, I'd even take a repeat of The Earth Light. And while you're at it, check into Gravity, Hypnotica, and basically anything good-cool. Of course, it goes without saying that all the Extreme transplants are welcome too...

Alright, I've rambled on far too long as though anyone cared about my tastes in music -- but just to throw some fodder for discussion out there, as we won't see any real information on this for a while...

Bill Masterman, the largest arcade distributor in Washington state is a Vivid Member on this site. He told the Pacific Northwest forum that he talked to someone that sat in on the Konami Arcade Distributor Meeting where they said "Extreme is the last mix."

Sounds like it is to me. It HAS been said before by many people ever since 4th mix, but never as final as something like that.

OK. I'm getting really sick of all the ppl saying that putting an E-rotic song in a US release of DDR would give it an instant M rating. It is apparent that many ppl here DO NOT KNOW how the ESRB rates games. The worst I believe it would get would be TEEN. The reason I state this is because of an interview with the lead of Team Ninja on developing DOA: Extreme Beach Volleyball on how far they could "go". In discussions with the ESRB they were told that if they didn't mind an M rating they could even show pubic hair. Based on this statement and others in the interview that about the only thing that would rate an AO would be the showing of genitals or simulated sex. Explicate lyrics like E-rotics are tame in comparison of these AO stipulations as well as having the broad range that an M would get.

If ppl want to check my source they can check Game Informer Magazine. I forget which month specifically, but on the cover it had one of the girls from (at the time) Dave Mira BMX XXX and Hitome for DOA:EBV (2 Different covers were printed) The focus for the issue was sex in games and how far will those 2 games go.

thats essentially how that system works, heck, even if you compare E-rotic
songs to a M rated game, or an iffy rated teen game, the songs sort of pale in comparison, but then you might get the occasional crazy person who accuses ddr of corrupting the minds of children disturb.gif

so its kind of a two way street..... but both sides arent so promising.

Well, let's see.

"Dance Dance Revolution" came out on 5/9/2001.
"Dance Dance Revolution Konamix" came out on 4/26/2002.
"DDRMAX: Dance Dance Revolution" came out on 10/30/2002.
DDRMAX2, whatever it ends up being fully named, will ship in Fall 2003.

So yeah, 10-12 months between mixes seems to be average; Konamix to MAXUSA was sort of weird since work started on MAXUSA before Konamix started, as Spike has attested to.

So I don't see this as being any longer than the usual gaps.

I believe you forgot Disney Mix, it came out 9/20/01

Disney Mix doesn't count. Disney Mix NEVER counts. Although, if they took Night Of Fire from it and put it on Max2 US, I wouldn't mind a bit. But hey, Max2 US will most likely have MaxX Unlimited and Kakumei, so I'm happy. Chances are, it'll also have Spin The Disc and Secret Rendezvous just so they can say it's edit-friendly.

Personally, I wouldn't count Absolute out of it, either. I was surprised it wasn't included in Max US. Same applies for DXY!, and I'm really , REALLY hoping they include a TaQ song that hasn't been in a DDR game before (Traces or QQQ, especially).

My predictions for DDRMAX2 will be:
1. "Upside Down" by Coo-Coo
2. "Starian" by Duke (V.I.S. (Very Important Song))
3. "Dam Dariram" by Joga (Another V.I.S.)
4. "Maximum Overdrive" by 2 Unlimited
5. "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Cosmic Gate
6. "Heaven" by DJ Sammy
7. "Boom Boom Dollar (K.O.G. G3 Mix)" by King Kong & D Jungle Girls
8. "Vol. 4" by Raver's Choice (Yet Another V.I.S.)
9. "Drop The Bomb" by Scotty D (Still Another V.I.S.)
10. "i feel..." by Akira Yamaoka (I.L.T.S. (I Love This Song))
11. "R3" by Tiger Yamato (or whatever the last name is)
12. "Stop The Rock" by Apollo 440 (Cool song)
13. "Let The Beat Hit Em" by Stone Bros. (Original)
14. "Strictly Buisness" by Mantronik vs. EPMD (Even Another V.I.S.)
15. "Little B***h" by The Specials

That's all. Oh and 1 more thing, Remove ONI mode already. It frustrates me. But keep the ONI remixes. They need it.

I for one would not, because that is way too much money. I can just deal with not having a couple songs and buy the mixes that are already out. It would cost a lot of money for licensing, and they KNOW that not a lot of people would buy it, so to break even they'd have to charge those who might even more, so you'd be looking at a price much higher than $250, which would most likely scare off the rest of the people who were thinking of buying it, and they'd have a bunch of expensive games that no one wants.

I have a similar idea, but different enough: remember the Disc Change feature back in 3rd MIX? Using that, you could play the 1st and 2nd MIX songs in 3rd MIX's interface. I think the idea should be brought back and expanded.

My dream is for the final Japanese PS2 version (Extreme, or whatever it may be) to have a Disc Change feature. When used, it would allow you to insert ANY of the major releases (1st, 2nd & maybe Club, 3rd, Best, 4th, Extra, 5th, MAX, MAX2) and:

1) play their songlist in the newer interface, as well as save records to the PS2 memory card
2) play their songlist in the newer training mode
3) create edits for them, including with freeze arrows
4) possibly additional features, like the addition of new Nonstop courses featuring the older songs (as was done in 3rd MIX PS's Disc Change)

Perhaps this stuff would be pretty useless for the versions already on PS2, but with the ability to use the PS1 versions, we could play ALL the old songs at 60fps, use speed/boost/other mods we couldn't use before... heck, we could make an Edit for Butterfly with freezes and play it on Extreme arcade. Plus it'd be a new reason for people to buy the old mixes... kind of like a last push for Konami to get more $ out of the franchise.

No licensing would have to be done, no arrangements would have to be made, and the amount of effort required to implement it would be far less than trying to create an uber-mix. I see it as a total win-win for everybody.

Oh, and I hope this is eventually done for the last USA mix, as well. =)

Quote:

Oni mode IMHO is as important to DDR as the freeze arrow. It adds so much. The challenge is wonderful, and finally clearing a course feels so rewarding. In the arcade, I barely ever play MAX2 in normal mode any more; Oni is just... incredibly fun, and challenging. If you're not good enough to play Oni mode, you will be. Then you may understand... I don't think it's for everybody, but I'm really happy it's there.

Whoever said I said R&P was a KO - I didn't. disgust.gif

Also, dealing with From Solo - you know what? I would not be surprised at all if they renamed it "From Konamix". Disgusting, yes, but fully possible. (actually...was Hysteria on Konamix? I think it was, but...)

With all the talk of Look at Us...it has a chance, especially if they want to get Nearly 130 in. SFSF might be harder to license, but it would add a name for the cover. If they got that, they could have the original 3 7th onis, and From Solo. Not to mention any other original-only onis.

Konami is doing the damn thing with DDR these days...

I'm glad I was wrong.. E4.gif

But what I want to know is, KONAMI...WHERE ARE THE U.S EXCLUSIVE KONAMI ORIGINALS? Licenses are great, but I mean get TaQ or U1-asmi, or Caramel S. in the DAMN STUDIO! Hell, get NAOKI to bust out with something new.

But I think they could get around the sticky license situation if they put in some originals. I mean, yeah people remember the new licenses in all the games, but when you think DDR, you think Konami orginals...not the dance mania. You think...

Rhythm and Police, Paranoia (though I think mixes should stop for that soon), Dynamite Rave, TRIP MACHINE stuff like that.

I think KOA should try that now. It's the only thing I think that's left that they really HAVEN'T done, except gone in and put EVERY song in from EVERY mix. E7.gif

What do y'all think?

Yeah, I think.......

Rhythm and Police is a dancemania song. [/i]
