Now that I'm slowly getting more and more time, I'm able to start rewriting the FAQ to fit the needs of the site. I'm hoping that when I'm done, it will eliminate many of the basic questions that people have, as well as other questions that the FAQ does not answer at the moment.

So what I'm wondering is, what questions do you all have?

I'm going to keep everything in the FAQ right now, and rewrite it to make it more clear and add any other information on those subjects that I think needs to be added.

I'm also going to add:

-Explanations of the warning system
-More detailed explanations of what is warnable and what is not
-Answers to common complaints ("I have freedom of speech!")

What other things do you think should be added?

Image details:
- smaller than <xx> kb, and/or <xxx> by <xxx> pixels.
- quoting images
- image rules for the forums (how big is acceptable in which forums)

- Rules about abusing the quote system, smilies, etc.
- clear up the rules about swearing and why we have a swear filter
- board nazi-wannabe modding
- the difference between pirating ddr and using DWI
- rules about "the mods always being right" E13.gif
- maybe some links to other resources we don't have (character images, offical game site, etc)

Well you can at least tell how contests or games work in the boards. Or you can at least make things more clearly how the PM work (you know, no flamming by PMing that person.) Also can we have more polls more often? (I know this is a dumb question but I'm just wondering... blink.gif )

That's all I can think of for now. E13.gif

Add more details about sending messages that is actually from a member that has been banned ( Yes,I've been reading in the last few minutes and I'm confused about this.) E19.gif

Contests or games? You mean like the game threads? We don't really control those, whoever makes the games decides the rules. As for contests, we haven't really had one since the Konamix riddles, and the rules were laid out in that thread. There aren't any real general questions about either other than "Check the thread they appear in."

I'll try to make some general comments about PM's, they seem pretty self explanatory to me. But I will mention flaming/harrassment and how they relate to PM's. Just to make it clear: flaming IS allowed in PM's (because we can't really have proof that you did/did not flame) but if we get continuous complaints about you harrassing someone, then we'll tell you to stop or warn you.

I have no idea what this means. Do you mean something like "Is it ok to post messages that a banned member asked me to post?" No, it is not. And if you do it, you will be banned as well.

You mean like what colors mean what type of steps? The DDR Dictionary already answers that =P

For one, make it so people HAVE to read it. Like a test or something, before becoming a member.

And explain the Avatar concept to people, and why Geocities isn't a good host. Also, why .html files don't work for an avatar. And why there is a file size limit on avatars, and also why putting something larger or smaller than 64x64 pixels won't work well(gets distorted).

No, as in explaining that DDR Freak is not Step Chart Central and/or has a few mistakes in its charts and/or providing links to the zyx-19 charts. One of the most annoying parts of Site Feedback is the people who are like OMG the step chart for X song is wrong!!!! Putting it in the FAQ could give you a reason to bitch people out for doing that.

What if someone told somebody else that this member is flammimg him or her but the person didn't flame. Even worse, the person could gather alot of people and blame the person for something that he or she didn't do. Or the person that is blamming him or her could've have a special device that allows the person to find out his or her password. Would you still ban him or her? E19.gif

Uh...well, we don't say "Ok, 10 people said this person flamed, so we'll warn them." We look at the thread where it happened, and if the person flamed, then we warn them. If they didn't flame, then we don't warn. We do not have anyone who was unfairly banned. And if we did, they could just talk to us about it and we would review it and if it was unfair, we would unban them. As for PM's, for the most part you should be mature enough to deal with what you get in your PM box. If you can't, then ignore PM's from that person. If it gets extreme then we'll deal with it, but we've only had one case (that I know of) that got that far.

Our server is secure, that wouldn't happen.

Why are you so worried about people being banned and coming back from being banned?

Is there any way a mod could check a person's PM inbox, just in case?

I mean... it IS possible that someone tells you that X person is harrassing them, just to get them in trouble. And unless you could check the PM box, there IS no way to prove it...

But, if you don't have to deal with PM harassment much, it's not that big of a deal.

Another thing, not related to the FAQ: The Dictionary needs updating. Entries (such as the definition of "Standard") are oudated, failing to mention that it is used in mixes higher than 6th and the like.

Please add on a part that tells people that they aren't allowed to bump old *OLD* topics unless they add on a really essencial (sp?) or important thing (information, etc.)

It is possible for an administrator to do it. I don't think phpbb comes with a tool for that but we do have access to the database which means (in theory) we can read anything - it would just take a lot of work.

There is a way, but we can't do it at the moment. There is a PHPBB plugin that would allow us to read every single PM. I honestly don't think we would need to do it, because like I said we have only had one problem ever, and most people can deal with it on their own. When I say harrassment, I'm talking like stalking.

And then of course there's all of the stuff about invasion of privacy and whatnot. We would have to make it part of the member agreement if we were to do it, but I think that it would make a lot of people nervous if we even had the possibility to check PM's. I know that none of the admins would do it, and I'm sure the other admins all trust each other, but that's because we know each other. With 20,000 members, I'm sure there would be at least a couple people who wouldn't like it, and it would just be more of a hassle for everyone. It honestly isn't a big enough problem to have that feature.
