Since the Pop N Music fans took over my thread, here is my question.
http://shop.store.yahoo.com/hypergameaction/be2dxconim.html
I found an IIDX controller at this site for $5 cheaper than Japanvideogames. I am not sure if the site is any good though. What do you guys think? |

Why don't you get from from YesAsia? $85 and many times free shipping. Or are they out or something? |

HyperGameAction was out of stock, along with YesAsia. I just ordered from Japanvideogames for $100. It's not too bad. |

Heh, sorry aboot that. What kind of example am I setting?
Most IIDX controllers will run you $85-$100, so you did okay. Its a shame YesAsia is out of stock, their's is/was the best deal. |

On an IIDX arcade machine, can you switch difficulties like on the home versions? |

It *should* say on the screen how to change difficulties. I know it's different from style to style. You can only change difficulty in 7-key mode, not in Light-7 or 5-key mode. Holding VEFX while selecting your song will enable ANOTHER mode. To enable light-7 mode, look at what it says on the screen. |

On 6th Style how do you change effector settings? Sometimes I manage to change them by accident, but I don't know how exactly. |

Hold select down while you are playing a song and it will cycle through the four effector settings, from echo~delay1~delay2~delay3 and then off again. _________________

You can change difficulty on L7 too, but only to pick 7key difficulty for songs. You just have to hold in the VEFX button when you pick your song(same as picking [A] difficulty when you are in 7key mode). I'm not sure about 5key, because i never play 5key.
This is on an 8th style machine BTW. I don't remember if you could do it on a 6th style arcade machine too, because I never played L7 mode on a 6th style machine. I have no clue about it for 5th style either, but I do remember that you could switch to L7 or [A] from 7key mode too. _________________

At the arcade? Well you can always get the ex stage at the arcade. on 6th-8th style you can get the ex stage by either full comboing a 5 star song, finishing a 6 star song with a 100% life bar, or passing a 7(or flashing 7) star song. It doesn't matter whether its on L7, 7, or [A] on your last song(usually 3rd)
For 5th style arcade, it's full combo a 4 star song, have 100% on a 5 star, or pass any 6, or 7 star song. _________________

Look around on Konami's site http://www.konamijpn.com. Chances are about 90% of the pictures people use from IIDX came from there. Since I'm sure many of you aren't fluent in nihongo, check the sections listed as "G2ARTS" or "POSTERS" from the different styles. |
Um...I've searched in the 5th and 6th Style pages, no such section.

Another question pertaining to IIDX controllers.
How do I get the dirt off the insides of the keys? I have the problem of failing a song because of sticky keys. It used to be alright, but it's now getting so annoying that I have not played IIDX in a while. |

Easy mode makes your Groove gauge build up twice as fast, and it doesn't drop as quickly.
Hard mode is basically playing DDR. Your Groove gauge turns one solid red color to let you know that it is typically an expert class bar, and it starts you off with 100% Groove. As you miss notes, the bar drops rapidly, and it takes about twice as long to rebuild it. If you miss too many, and your gauge drops to 0%, you instantly fail whatever song you are playing, and you get kicked right back to the menu.
I prefer Hard mode, and would never pick Easy mode for anything. Hard mode really makes you learn how to do those parts of those songs that hurt, because if you think you are going to bomb a part of a song, and make a come back and clear it with 80%+ at the end, think again. X_X _________________

However, I always pick easy at the arcade. Why? Because no way I'm plunking down 200 yen to fail a song (particularly if it's still my first stage). Of course, almost EVERYONE picks Easy mode (probably for this very reason), so I don't feel ashamed, and besides, it doesn't actually affect what grade you get, so if you pass something and get an E, people will still know you suck.
In any case, I'd like to mention a few interesting items I found in the FAQ:
-3rd Style is actually one of the more, if not the most, commonly found styles (as of the present), and goes for a reasonable price, usually. I got mine for 2980 yen, but I've also seen it go for as low as 1500. Good luck finding any other style go for that low, or even locating one (particularly 5th Style; that is a PAIN to find).
-With the exception of no Beginner's Mode, I really don't think 4th Style is the hardest. While I know this is a matter of opinion, when I go from 6th back to 4th on my PS2, I find the songs considerably easier on average. Plus, some of the hardest songs on 4th (i.e. DXY!) can also be found on 6th, and frankly, Take it Easy Another blows DXY! Another away any day of the week in terms of sheer difficulty. I think the one argument you can make for 4th is that you cannot change the various speed/difficulty settings mid-game like you can in 5th and 6th, so if you picked Hi-Speed3 at the beginning, you're stuck with it whether you like it or not (and can really cause problems for songs with BPS rates above 190).
Not in the FAQ per se, but you CAN change the difficulty in Light 7 (at least in 7th and 8th Style arcade) to 7 Key by holding down the V-EFX button at the song selection screen (similar to how one chooses Another mode in 7 Key). It's very useful for those who want to practice hard 7-Key songs in the arcade, as even if you fail the first stage if you chose Light 7 as your overall difficulty, you can still go on for a second! You don't get the same luxury in 7 Key mode, alas. The one drawback is that you can't practice Another versions of songs, but one shouldn't look gift horses in mouths. _________________

Very good point . The only reason why I don't pick it (not yet at least) is because I play at home and I don't like to cut myself any slack when it comes to practicing in a game. If my money depended on it every note of the way, I am pretty sure I would use Easy mode if I knew I wanted to do a song but would probably fail it...maybe . I don't like cutting corners though, so it would have to be a REALLY hard song I suppose. _________________
