I get how you feel. I was like that when I first started. You just have to keep practicing. Its weird though because I began doing maniac after a week. Just keep practicing that is the best thing to do. |

Can someone give me some advice or some tip to help learn spins better. I've been practicing for some time now and I still can't do spins very well (I'm lucky if I don't trip myself). A good example of this would be Drop The Bomb on Trick. I have a full combo up to the end where the spins are. That's where I fall apart. _________________

i think the more important question is now how you improve but why you want to improve.i'm hoping no one is reading this to be better than other people.personally i think the player should be his/her only competition.thats the best mentality for improvement.when you play to beat others, your only going to be good enough to beat people so your limiting yourself to other peoples abilities.when you constantly push yourself there is no limit. |

To spin. Spin when the arrows are up right down then left. Use your right good for the up button. Use your left foot for the right button. Your right foot for down. Then use your left foot for left button. Then just go on from there. Its what I do. |

A good song to exemplify the fact that the steps follow the music(usually) is Dam Dariam Maniac, at the very beginning. If you're just looking at the step charts, you're pretty clueless. But, if you're listening to the song and looking at the step charts (or playing[god forbid]), you can see just how perfect that series of 'tough steps' are at the beginning.
Hope this is helpful! _________________

I've been playing DDR for 4 months, I can Pass Paranoia Rebirth, Drop Out, Afronova, etc. I'm working on the really hard catas like Max Unlimited and Max300. About drop out, Ive only passed it twice, I was really hyped up when I passed it. Drop Out just gives me mega problems. I full combo the song until the last part, the 8th notes eat me alive. Can anyone give me some advice? _________________

On the main page, the sidebar has a link for the DDR Dictionary. Reading that will help avoid further confusion. |

I've got a few questions, actually. Here goes.
I've been playing for 6 months now... I started in late March, early April. On our 3rd Mix Korean version 2 machine, I began with "Soft" mode, and now I'm doing SSR (Maniac).
I can do just about every song nearly flawlessly on SSR, except for about 5 or 6. Dead End, though, is the only Catastrophic song I can ALWAYS pass. (I only have trouble with the continuous groups of steps -- like UP UP UP UP UP UP UP UP, etc. -- but everyone has trouble with those, so I'm okay with it.)
I used to be able to do Afronova and Paranoia Rebirth, but I can't do them anymore. The parts after the "pivoting" in Afronova I can't seem to do anymore. Back when I could do them, I didn't turn my body, and I stepped the really weird way that you see some people do, for instance, when you do an LDR triplet without turning. Now, I turn my body for the rest of the song, I just can't do it that part. There's also some awkward turning in Rebirth that I can't do -- which is also after the "pivoting."
I absolutely CAN'T seem to pass Captain Jack and End of the Century. I can pass Dynamite Rave some of the time if I try *really hard* -- but the highest I've got was a C. And that's on the FIRST STAGE. I can do all of Luv to Me except a part in the middle of the skipping where you've got to switch feet - I can't seem to do that. I can do Gradiusic Cyber, but it's just really, really weird.
I have problems doing 16th notes and steps faster than that. (Captain Jack, Dynamite Rave, and FACE I have trouble on.)
Am I as good as I should be after playing for 6 months?
How can I get those 16th notes in Captain Jack and Dynamite Rave down, without memorizing them?
Any tips for doing the skipping in Luv to Me?
If anyone has any ideas on how I could improve... I'd really appreciate the help. DDR is my life! |

so you've got everything down on trick w/out a problem? you have absolutely no problem and have those paterns memorized? WHAT ARE YOU DOING??!? memorizin patterns for trick won't help for maniac! well, a little. anyway, for those of you who have no problem catching the arrows and know which one to hit but just can't hit it on time, or for those of you who can hit the arrows without a problem, but u just get mixed up, this is the tip for you. well, actually two tips.
since ur eyes and mind are key in this game, you'll have to train them a lot. not to the point that u memorize every arrow and beat, but at least be able to predict. i'd first suggest listening to the song itself and just trying to catch the bass. second what u can do is download stepmania and go to edit synch mode. pick any song on maniac, or smaniac. hit "T" until the playback/record speed is 1.5. now play (with or without the pad) and try to get as many a combo and perfect as you can. then...try it again. one more wouldn't hurt, but ur eyes should be used to it already. now, press "T" again until its down to 1. now at its normal speed, the arrows are seemingly EXTREMELY SLOOOOOOOW!!! well, thats it for your eyes and mind.
oh, for those of you with bad timed steps, try a song in training, then look at what you have the majority of, early or late. i'm not sure if any other ddr has it, but i know konamix has it in training after finishing (or failing in my case) a song. it will tell you how many u missed and how u missed them. early or late. and simply, if u hit late constantly, hit before you think ur suppose to. and vice versa for the other.
i used to have both these problems. but after a little experimenting in stepmania and a little bit of practice on konamix and analyzing my steps in practice, i've boosted my play level from "the best i can do is C on trick" to "hey, C on maniac, i'm happy with my mediocrity!" well of course i'll keep practicin, u should too.
from basically horrible...
to trickling sweat...
to maniacally hard, but i got it done...
in only...3...carry the 2............4 and a half months! |

Does anyone have tips on how to pass Healing vision angelic mix on maniac. I dont know how to follow certain steps in the first third of the song and the last third. I think you might have to double step at certain parts but its too fast to double step. any tips would be greatly appreaciated. Also any tips on learning to gallop? my next mission after HVAM is Soo Deep. |

I totally agree!
Fast songs help build your reaction time so you will
respond quicker. Not to mention your leg muscles _________________

I still have tons of room left for improvement, Im pretty much into freestlye, but i still do technical.. my recent achievement was passing So Deep on Maniac with a C...almost failing as well...today that is..i played it yesterday and failed at the last 2 steps. I want to get better at that song...pass more catas...and actually AA stuff, ive never full comboed anything..and ive been playing for a year and a half. But my stamina and breathing sux. Like in So deep...i get tires 75% through and its hard for me to play...and after i get off.. my breathing is reall reall short plus i star coughing..on any hard song..exclusind Max 300 on Standard...i can get a B on that |

i can only give one more hint besides training ur eyes with extremely fast songs and reaction and leg eye coordination by increasing their speed and trying to keep up with them. and that extra tip is attaching huge boulders to your ankles. that will help u step later. as well as build up strength in ur calf and thigh muscles. just don't try to kick anything or anybody after ddr becomes too easy with the boulders on, you might kill somebody!
(u mean ur really goin to use that tip? OKAY!! ........ ) |

On the parts that are three 8th notes with breaks in between, I start with my right foor, and go r,l,r. For most of those, that is...some I use l,r,l, and those are pretty noticable. On the constant 8th run at the very end, start with your left foot, and just keep switching. Use l,r,l,r,l,r... the whole time, and turn your body. It's too fast to toe-tap. The same is good for the end of the Drop Out Oni Remix.

You pretty much have to memorize the rhythms... they kind of go with the music, but are still funny. Sorry Put it on x1.5 speed for wierd rhythms in slower songs, though those two are probably going to scroll too fast to read if you do that.

Yeah, you have to double step through the entire song, for the most part...it's a really hard one ... When you have arrows like l,d,u,r.. you can spin on slower songs, but you almost have no other choice but to toe tap at this speed. Just try and keep your feet close to the inside part of the arrows (close to the middle metal square), and use your heels and toes to go faster in toe tapping. That's also good for the Max's.
As far as galloping goes, try something easier before So Deep. That's the hardest gallop song. I would say try In the Navy, or maybe Japan first. There's not too many easy songs with constant gallops. Try it a bit first, and if you still have problems, ask again

Also, when you're up to it, do sudden shuffle. That REALLY helps reaction time after a short amount of use _________________
