im only a newbie to DDR but plz tell me about these little moves i do for a few songs:
for LR, pause, LR, pause, LR, LR i do: LR normal, then face 90 degrees to my right with feet tight in the center thinning myself as much as possible for the pause, then LR backwards for the next one, then another 90 degrees to my right doing same as before, then last 2 LRs just normal.
i know thats basic but hey its the first thing outside of normal dancing ive ever thought of lol! considering for proper DDR dancing the best i can do is 5step songs on Euromix i shouldnt be a pro.
plus one im gonna practise for Dynamite Rave 5step, a simple yet still painful double knee drop.
for DL, UR, DL i would (obviously) step on DL, then drop down to UR, then jump a little for the other DL. i was thinking to make it eaiser for getting up for the 2nd DL i could push myself up in the air with my hands right after the knee drop and then kick myself down onto the other DL arrows so im standing up straight.
lucky for me after that bit there's a pause lol _________________

well... if you want to be considered a pro by the majority of pro freestylers... knee drops and handslaps AREN'T the way to go. They're heavily frowned upon with disgust and hatred even.
just a heads up.
however, if you enjoy doing it... then go right on ahead. _________________

yeah i know its basically frowned upon but:
1) im a beginner
2) where i live i got a crowd and a "wow" by doing 5step Dynamite Rave without throwing any unnecessary moves in. lol.
plus i think kneedrops can be good, if just used right. i just wanna have one song where i can do some nice simple flashy moves in the arcades if i feel like showing off a little. once i get better and im able to pass the harder songs (and im fitter!!) ill start working on more complex routines.
what kind of moves could u recommend for a beginner? (keeping in mind ive never done acrobatics or that kinda stuff in my life, tho i can SOMETIMES do some flashy kicks and other improvised martial arts stuff lol.
oh well thanks for any help!
and plus, yeah i do have fun doing my kneedrop move so for now i dont see why i should care about the pro's opinions heh. and anyway, there arent many great players here so no-one to say "oh well i can do better" _________________

coolio, if you enjoy doing kneedrops, go right on ahead; don't let others hinder you from doing what you enjoy (as long as you dont harm yourself/others/the machine).
good routines/freestyling to DDR doesn't require you to be a great acrobat... there actually is no requirement as it's "free"style.
However, this is how i started my frestyling:
1) Basic spins (L, D, R, U pattern)
2) Slides
3) Handslaps/Knee drops
4) Fancy shuffling footwork
5) Arm movement (by now, i stopped the handslaps/kneedrops)
6) Body movement (i.e., head, hips etc.)
7) Memorizing and choreographing a routine
all you really need to do is make it look like or seem like you're dancing and enjoying it. it's all about being unique, you want to be flashy, you want to be original; people who've seen the same thing done over and over will over look you.
hope this helps _________________

well if u have any other specific things that would help plz tell me.
are there any good bits on Dynamite Rave 5step for a basic spin? i do a jumping jack spin for the LR, pause, LR, etc. bits.
i cant really practise sliding cuz i do most of my playing on EM1 at home on a soft mat.
i need easy to do stuff that can be done on that. _________________

Im new to DDR but i can already tell FS'ing is the way for me. I've already began working on 2 seperate routines... a zombie routine (havnt picked song yet) and a verry funny routine with the whistle song. the whole theme about it is my fiance is tired of me playing DDR and wants to have sex (we'll start a scene before i even play) and i start doin the song as usual... and she;s like grabbing me and stuff but not in bad places =)... havnt worked all the details we got some really good stuff planned for the stops in the song....i know im probably gonna get flamed for it but i dont even care! _________________

practised my routine a little more.
i can turn my back to the screen a lot more often now.
and when doing my double knee drop bit ive changed it just to a single knee drop with a handplant so that its easier to push myself back up for the next step.
i have some bits where ill hop a little on my left foot as well - nothing flashy, more of a filler move for sections where i have no idea of the kinda stuff im able to do! lol. _________________

Blegh. Aside from the fact that I'm dorky and white, I have NO interesting arm moves. I watch Kevin Kim's video and am blown away by all the stuff he was able to choreograph. I watch videos, but don't get anything from them--I dunno, maybe I should start jotting down arm moves that I like.
Shooting arms out in random directions (RiceBoy2000's Long Train Runnin') kinda works for me for a while if the foot movement is sharp and matches the arms. And then there's the one arm "make a circle, then shoot it out to the side" when there's two of the same arrow in a row. Other than that, I just "move them naturally", which is fine for improv...but if it comes time to choreograph something (which I'd kinda like to do for an upcoming tourney with Never Let You Down), my repetoire is...empty.
Can anybody suggest anything here? Any specific videos I can get off KaZaA besides "N Sync stuff"? Eh? Eh?
eh... _________________

I can't really answer the first one since I don't do flares (uh, try not to lose balance so you don't grab onto the bar?)...but...
As for the 2nd question: Just because you're a girl doesn't mean you have to feel yourself up like Nobody Jen. Dance however you want to--if you think it'll be judged as "guy-dancing", big deal. If it looks good, the crowd will like it, and you've got nothing to worry about. _________________

Hey guys, I'm learning how to breakdance and I wanna put some of the moves onto DDR. What are some good moves that will look good in a freestyle routine? _________________

don't try bboying on a DDR machine, breakin' takes up just too much room to try and confine it to such a small space. |
