Aaah, too many posts in here!! Whenever I think I've decided on which adapter looks good, someone posts problems they're having with it.

So what is currently the reigning champion for adapters? That EMS one looked good, until that last guys post E10.gif.

Also, I'm curious as to what program is the best for playing DDR on the PC. I'm currently using Delight Delight Reduplication, but I don't know what else is available and how they compare. All I know is that the mp3 bitrate on the ones I have is 40k... and it sounds kinda crappy.

Be sure to have the newest version of StepMania ( beta6 or FINAL ) and
make sure that the "IGNORE AXES" option is set on in your INPUT
options. Hope that helps!

Contrary to a previous post, Radio Shack converters DO work, but only if you use JoyToKey. I bought 2 today and just got them working.

I suspect that almost any converter will work in conjunction with JoyToKey, because I think the underlying problem is the converter converting the D-pad into axis movements instead. If the conversion goes to axis movements instead of buttons, it's like trying to tell stepmania to set the mouse moving left for the stepmania left command.

Here's the JoyToKey link: http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA016823/joytokey/english.html

Is there any way at all to get a Smart Joy Box 3 to work on Windows XP? I bought 2 today (for my 2 pads) only to discover that they don't work (Axis instead of Buttons, etc...). Using NTPad I was able to get one of the pads functioning fully (Arrows as buttons) but in trying to get the other pad to work, I frick it up and it's back to Arrows as Axis. I haven't been able to get it working properly since.

Is there ANY WAY AT ALL to get this to work? It will cost me about 65 USD to ship an EMS USB2 adapter over here (as i'm in Australia) and this is the only one i've been able to find in this country.

Please help.

i just realized that the ebay link i posted b4 was to the same adapter as the BNS. Do those BNS work because if they do, ebay is a much better deal!

Something weird's come up. I'm using a MyMyBox pad with the Lik-sang BOOM adapter. It works fine when I do light songs but sometimes when I do songs with a big step density, it sorta "disconnects" and stops registering for the remainder of that song. Anybody else run into this problem?

My BOOM adapter from Lik-Sang just came in today. It kinda finicky to install... I installed the driver but it said that the 'device would not start'. E19.gif I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver three or four times and then somehow it worked. laugh.gif

And holy crap, this thing works great. XD Scored an all-around A ranking on an 8-foot/7-foot/9-foot song run on Stepmania 3.0 final. E4.gif

I bought 2 of the BOOM PS2 to USB adapters http://www.lik-sang.com/?click=pi-10-255-link from Lik-Sang a month a go and I haven't had any problems yet!! I installed the drivers on my little sisters 98 PC and my XP pro PC and the adapters work perfectly with Stepmania !!! biggrin.gif One time the 98 PC didn't recognize the adaptor, so I unplugged the USB cable, plugged it back in, and the device was found. I'd recommend the BOOM PS2 to USB adapter for DDR play with a mat on the PC. thumb.gif

I'm pretty sure any problems with axis commands instead of button commands can be solved with joytokey. Psytech, give it a try before you go out spending 65 dollars. Just set it so the axis directions convert to the up, down, left, and right arrows, respectively. The other buttons should work fine.

Now this is odd... I unplugged the Boom adapter from the computer, then when I later plugged it back in, I got the same "device will not start" message. So I did what I did before: Unplugged it, then replugged. Tried reinstalling the drivers. It came up as an 'unknown device', and nothing I did would get the computer to recognize it. And not only that, ALL my USB devices had been deactivated! Rebooting didn't help.

Using XP's System Restore feature got the other USB devices working, but the Boom adapter still won't register. E19.gif

EDIT: Now, strangely enough, it's working again. Hrm. I guess I just won't unplug it unless I really really really need to. laugh.gif

EDIT #2: It seems there's a truly random probability as to whether or not this thing will work when you plug it in or initially boot up the computer. So far, I've found that plugging in/unplugging a few times does the trick. Sometimes you have to wait a few min before plugging it back in, but I've found no need to reinstall the drivers again; as soon as the device is recognized, it'll just plain work. Good enough for me!
