You know your obsessed with DDR when you spend your entire prom night speaking nothing but Announcer-ese:
(at girlfriend's door) "You're BEAUTIFUL!" "Are ya ready?"
(selecting a dinner course) "Let's heat it UP with this number!"
(at the dance) "What a step!" "Show me your hottest moves!"
(i'm skipping the typical post-prom activity commentary...fill in the blanks @.@x)
(afterwards, smoking in bed) "I was MOVED!" |

Considering I don't have a Playstation (although I'm getting one soon and building a pad) I mostly play at my friends and when not there at the arcade. Basically I haven't practiced enough to look at the crowd, although once I get my PS set up I'll be practicing like there's no tommorow. Anyways, I've just got a few tricks I can pull and some tips. First, jump alot! It looks much better than just shuffling your feet, unless that's part of your gimmick or something. At Playdium today I was FSing on Boom Boom Boom and it was ok, not anything special just ok. The move where you bend over is called a bridge, and although it looks good to a non-DDR playing crowd, it gets stale after awile. Here's a tip for B4U (don't worry it's one of my favorite songs, actually I like all Naoki stuff): if you're doing glorious style, then you can pull off this move. At the part in the song where it goes LR UD LR DDD, start with both feet on LR, then jump with both, turning to UD, then jump again, so you end up basically spinning around. That's all for now. |

There's a whole lot of small moves that you can do that don't really add up to a routine but they are fun to do and I like to think they're impressive. These kinda moves are the reason I haven't left Basic yet - I want to master looking at least halfway decent when I'm playing. Anyway, on to the list:
Knee Drops: Yeah, overused, I know, but still not a bad thing to learn. At least try one or two, for your own benefit if not the audience. I'd say it's worth being proficient enough that you don't hit the metal while trying to do one.
Hand plants: These can actually be quite good if used in a new enough way. Today I tried out drunken dancing on Theme From Enter The Dragon Basic and collapsed on the L, R, LR with 3 handplants. A quick swig from my drink (not really alcohol of course) and I got back up with a stupid grin.
Rotations: There are 3 types, The first is a clockwise or anticlockwise one (there's at least one in Conga Feeling Basic and I did a reallly long one in Stomp To My Beat Basic today left me dizzy as anything). R, D, L, U will work as well as R, R, D, D, L, L, U, U. The second type of rotation goes U, L, R, D - for this one you hit the top one with your right foot, then turn and hit L using your right foot, then R with your left foot and D with your right foot. You can add outside spins to this too - try for example hitting U with your left foot and then spinning around it to L. The third type involves steps that go UD, LR, UD, LR, UD... you get the idea. You can sustain a spin on this or even on something like LR, D, LR, U or UD, L, UD, R, UD, L... See Captain Jack Basic, No Limit Basic, and Xanadu Trick for samples of this.
DDRMAX and MAX2 have freeze arrows, which you can incorporate into intersting stuff as well. What I usually do for these is keep my foot on the freeze arrow as I spin around it, timing the spin so that my non-frozen foot lands on the correct arrow at the right time. I can usually do this one.
The move I'm currently working on (only one success at this one so far) is to do a 270-degree spin onto an UD from a LR position.
There's a whole lotta other moves of course, and I'm guessing 90% of the people on this board already knew these. So, tell me yours then, unless they're going into an upcoming tournament. |

hey, what about props? my friend and I were thinking about doing a routine involving swords... so it'd be like a swordfighting routine... yeah... cause they involve swords... which are cool... cause they're swords... anyway, we were thinking about doing it to the butterfly song, but ddrfreak doesn't have the moves up yet, so we can't work out anything like on the spot, which we are kinda going to have to do unless someone makes a butterfly step chart... any other suggestions? _________________

Do it to Matsuri Japan/Trick Little. Dress up as samurai, and stage a swordfight during the long pause. _________________

As others have said a lot before, dont' worry about memorizing steps. Memorize moves, and just arrange those moves so that you're hitting the appropriate arrows. |

I'm trying to find a Blackjack (the big wood sticks the police use to subdue the rowdy with) to use for some songs.
Better than a handplant, I'll tell ya...plus you can do some wicked stuff with it as long as there aren't any diagonals coming up in the song for a little bit _________________

First MOVE YOUR ARMS AND BODY ,not only move the feet and when you are freestyling DON'T COPY, BE ORIGINAL that way you will be proud, try to don't repeat always the same moves and DON'T JUST ONLY MAKE TWO OR THREE MOVES PER SONG, try to use your knees or jour hands, DON'T STOPM that way you will look like a stupid guy, RELAX don't thing of people that are wathcing you maybe someones even can't dance, make your body happy dancing.
If you want more tips from a freestyler just write me, I will pay you attention. _________________
