The times I do the best are always when I am the one who has to survive. Last night I changed the songlist to Alphabetical and gestured for the other person to pick the song - he thought I had chosen the song I left it on (Paranoia Max I think). Anyway, my usual playing level is 2 or 3 feet below that, and about 20 seconds in he quit, so I realized that the only way was to beat the song myself, and I did. Pressure's really good! _________________

Hye maybe these can help me with my MAX2 Arcade Skillz. Either that or they set the difficulty a little too high. |

Listen to the music if you can. If you can't, download it from http://mly.hoolee.net By listening to it, you can get a sense of the rythm; the second half of mastering a song. _________________

I don't own a DDR pad at home so I go to the local Tilt! to play:
Often I play from noon til 6;00, when the chess club starts up outside in the mall. On other days I can go from 10-8 with breaks for bathroom drinks and lunch. So I go 6-8 hours with breaks in between for stuff, and other people to play.
If you play for extended periods more and more, your endurance will build up. And when you feel tired, pump up the adrenaline and you'll be able to pass the next song. If you get winded, just take a few minutes to catch your breath. Get lots of water.
To get better, listen to the rhythm. I see plenty of people that can hit the steps, but are always off beat.
Watch the steps, and always look ahead. Others understand the rhythm and don't look ahead into the song to see what's coming up.
DON'T play out something that you make up in your head. Plenty of people think the steps come earlier than they really do, or are on different beats. Watch your combo to see if you're getting it on beat. If your combo breaks or you only get a great, at the end of the song think about what happened and see if you can adjust your step to get that perfect.
Trust yourself when you look ahead, a good tool for this is playing songs you know pretty well on hidden. That way you can practice looking ahead.
Look for someone better than you and emulate them, or if you're better than everyone raise the bar for the rest of the players so they get good too. But be nice too. =)
Watch videos of people playing, watch people's feet when they play, watch watch watch. You can gather a lot by watching one's feet.
Use your toes more than your heels. People where I'm from go through fast songs without touching heels to the ground. You get more bounce when you're not flat footed.
Find out what works and what doesn't. Play roulette or random songs, let other people pick. Play the songs you don't like, once you master them then you can stop playing em.
I hope all of this hasn't been said before. I haven't read the whole thread >.< |

Does anyone know the type of weights where you can like hoot to your ankles? Try playing with those at home or something for like an hour and take them off. Then try again, any improvement?? |

I've tried that before.
Good training if you have heavy shoes.
It will increase muscle strength and endurance... but will it improve your twitch?
Sand weights are kinda junk if they pop open you get sand on your pad. |

One thing I noticed people werent stating is the fact that there's a bar behind you. While it may not look cool or anything, it's a great way to learn how to follow arrows and beats and whatnot. (Plus, I've seen multiple people pass Max300/MaxXUnlimited, and they all used the bar )
Drink water and eat healthy, because while it is a video game, it is also a workout program. I am a runner, and i took the entire summer off of running, but played DDR a whooooooole lot, and when I got back into it, it was fairly easy getting back into running shape. If you eat junk food and drink soda and all that bad-stuff, you will cramp up and get sick
Mix up your songs, and play songs you know on shuffle, hidden, sudden, mirror, etc. etc. (not invisible mode or whatever it's called, that just shows you know the whole song )
Ok, now that I've given my advice, it's my turn to ask for some.
I've been stuck at the 7-8 foot level on maniac recently. But just the other day, I passed "Burnin' the Floor", and if i'm not mistaken, that was a 9footer. Is there some kind of inconsistency in the step ratings or what, cuz that really confused me. _________________

The step ratings are a general guide to the difficulty of the songs. You may have been stuck at 7-8 feet maniacs lately, but when you played Burnin' the Floor maybe it just clicked and you understood it. Being stuck at a difficulty level could mean that you can't execute certain parts of the song, or quite understand the song fully, resulting in a failure.
Just keep in mind that step ratings are "general guides" and just because a song may be higher than what you can pass consistently doesn't mean that you cannot pass it, or that it is harder than songs of the level below. =)
Hope that helped.
