You have uploaded the same picture with different names.
You have to solder on the yellow part. You can see that it's the oposite side of the one touching the red dot (ground).

You can solder the ground at the red dot. You only need ONE ground wire. Just scrape the surface until you see the copper and solder over there.

Yes, you can use an Xbox pad.
You don't need an Xbox-USB adapter as the Xbox pad connector is in fact a usb with a different housing. Look for tutorials at xbox-scene.com, its VERY easy.

I had exactly the same problem on 2 platforms using cheap 6 USB pads. They worked fine for a few days and then they suddenly start failing.
Now I'm using the electronics from a Naki mat for xbox ... |
