The format for reading the notes on the screen is similar to Beatmania. However, instead of pressing keys and spinning a turn table, you instead use drum sticks and hit the drum pads or step on the foot pedal according to what notes drop. Drum Mania 2nd mix can also be linked with Guitar Freaks so you can play with up to one drummer and two people playing the guitar. Drum Mania is also available on the Japanese PS2 with mini drum pads as well as places that import Japanese arcade games.
