My school's broadcast journalism club is doing a report on DDR and health and being used in schools' P.E. curriculum. I would really appreciate it if people could play DDR for about half-an-hour to an hour on Workout mode in the home version of your choice and report back with the following:
1. Calories Burned
2. Time Played
3. Difficulty Played
I know this may sound like such an odd request for a DDR forum but I'd really appreciate it |

fix'd
maybe even height
just be aware that DDR's kCal counter isn't very accurate.
I'll have some data ready by Friday as well _________________

Sure, I'll join in. I could probably do it tomorrow, even.
Does the workout mode differ between versions at all? Like, how kCals are measured, or something like that? Also, is there any difference between the Japanese and US versions? 'Cuz I only own imports. |

From SuperNova 2:
Weight: 150 lbs
Time: 30 min game time (42 min total)
Total: 370 Calories
Average: 18.5 Calories per song
Difficulty: Heavy/Expert (All 7-footers, which is the average for heavy/expert)
I'm on spring break so any info you want me to get back to you just let me know. I have all the ps2 versions (plus In The Groove), I can set it for any amount of time, any weight, any difficulty. _________________

Used SuperNOVA 2 since it's the most recent release.
Weight - 157
Calories Burned - 161
Time Played - 15 minute freeplay as goal / 32 minutes to reach goal
Difficulty Played - Difficult / Standard
If there's anything I want to note, the calorie count felt way over since I didn't work up much of a sweat. 15 minutes on an eliptical usually nets me 120 calories and a sweat so I don't trust the numbers on the game. Most likely with schools using DDR in their P.E. curriculum they'd be letting them pick songs like with what I did right here, which brings up a problem. I had apx 17 minutes of downtime scattered throughout the "workout" because I was spending most of my time thinking what song to pick next. Pretty much using DDR you can't get that constant movement to keep the heartrate up, even if you select courses since there are load times inbetween the songs anyways. Not to mention if school's are including this in their program, chances are the kids playing will probably be on the lightest settings since not everyone plays it. I could barely consider what I did exercise so I can't imagine a group of kids under the same circumstances doing this on a light setting and actually getting anything beneficial from it. Anyways, I do hope your journalism club will at least consider some of this info. Every article I see written about teen health just tosses DDR out there as the miracle exercise because it's become grouped and hyped as such.
Errrr best of luck XD |

On the other hand, playing 10 footers with shoes and event mode on makes even standing rather difficult. _________________
